Job Summary

The Fire Fighting Project Manager is responsible for the overall supervision and coordination of the Company's project operations, overseeing all Project Engineers and ensuring that projects are properly planned, executed and completed.

The role serves as the main link between the project team and Management, providing direction, resolving operational and technical issues, monitoring project performance and ensuring that significant issues are identified and addressed promptly before escalating to Management.

Key Responsibilities

1. Overall Project & Operations Supervision

• Oversee all ongoing fire protection projects and monitor their overall progress.
• Supervise and guide all Project Engineers in their daily project responsibilities.
• Ensure projects are properly planned, coordinated and executed according to schedule.
• Monitor manpower, materials, subcontractors and site activities.
• Ensure Project Engineers follow up on outstanding issues and project requirements.

2. Project Engineer Management

• Review the performance and work progress of all Project Engineers.
• Provide technical, operational and commercial guidance when required.
• Ensure Project Engineers properly manage their respective projects and site teams.
• Review project updates, site reports, schedules and outstanding matters.
• Identify weaknesses or recurring issues and take corrective action.

3. Problem Solving & Issue Management

• Act as the first level of escalation for project-related technical, operational and site issues.
• Provide practical solutions and make timely decisions to prevent project delays or unnecessary costs.
• Monitor potential problems before they develop into major issues.
• Take ownership of critical issues and coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors and suppliers to resolve them.
• Ensure major project issues are properly managed and resolved at project level before escalation to Management, where appropriate.

4. Management Reporting

• Provide regular and accurate project updates to Management.
• Report on project progress, delays, costs, risks, claims, variations and outstanding issues.
• Highlight only matters requiring Management's attention or decision.
• Ensure Management receives clear, timely and accurate information on the overall project situation.
• Prepare consolidated project status reports for Management review.

5. Project Cost & Commercial Monitoring

• Monitor project costs, material usage, subcontractor costs and overall project profitability.
• Review project variations, additional works and potential cost implications.
• Ensure Project Engineers properly track project costs and claims.
• Identify potential cost overruns and take corrective action promptly.

6. Client & Site Coordination

• Maintain good working relationships with clients, consultants, main contractors and subcontractors.
• Attend important project meetings and site inspections when required.
• Assist Project Engineers in resolving difficult client or site issues.
• Ensure customer concerns are addressed professionally and promptly.

7. Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all projects comply with approved drawings, specifications, BOMBA requirements and applicable standards.
• Monitor QA/QC documentation, testing and commissioning activities.
• Ensure proper safety practices are maintained across all project sites.
• Ensure project documentation and records are properly maintained.

8. Project Completion & Handover

• Monitor project completion, testing, commissioning and handover.
• Ensure outstanding works and defects are followed up and closed.
• Ensure as-built drawings, testing records, certificates and other handover documents are completed.
• Review project close-out status before final submission to Management.

Key Expectations

The successful candidate is expected to:

• Take ownership of overall project operations.
• Keep close control of all Project Engineers and their respective projects.
• Identify problems early and resolve them before they become major issues.
• Provide solutions instead of simply reporting problems.
• Ensure Management is kept informed of important matters without being unnecessarily involved in routine operational issues.
• Maintain clear visibility of the Company's overall project status at all times.
• Ensure no significant project, client, cost or operational issue is overlooked or allowed to escalate unnecessarily.

Requirements

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in fire protection, M&E or construction project management.
• Strong experience in fire fighting / fire protection system projects.
• Good knowledge of sprinkler, fire alarm, hose reel, fire suppression and related systems.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Able to manage and supervise multiple Project Engineers and projects simultaneously.
• Strong understanding of project costing, progress claims, variation orders and project documentation.
• Familiar with BOMBA requirements and Malaysian fire protection standards.
• Good communication, reporting and negotiation skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; AutoCAD and project management software are an advantage.
• Willing to travel to project sites when required.
