Job Description:

Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) is an IT professional who applies software engineering methods to IT operations to keep systems reliable, fast, and available.

An SRE typically:

• Monitors applications, servers, cloud platforms, and networks

• Responds to outages and performance problems

• Automates repetitive operational tasks

• Improves system availability, scalability, and recovery

• Defines reliability targets such as uptime, response time, SLI, SLO, and SLA

• Conducts incident reviews to prevent the same problem from recurring

Simple example:

For an online banking system, an SRE helps ensure that:

• Customers can log in at any time

• Transactions are processed quickly

• The system can handle sudden increases in traffic

• Services recover quickly after a failure

• Alerts detect problems before many customers are affected
