Role Description The Data Infrastructure Engineer, Pretraining role is a full-time hybrid position based in Singapore, with a mix of on-site and work-from-home flexibility. In this role, the engineer designs, builds, and maintains data and compute infrastructure that powers large-scale pretraining of enterprise LLMs, including storage, networking, and orchestration layers. Day-to-day responsibilities include configuring and administering systems, optimizing data pipelines and cluster performance, monitoring infrastructure health, and ensuring secure, reliable access to training data and models. The engineer collaborates closely with machine learning, platform, and security teams to troubleshoot issues, improve throughput and reliability, and implement best practices for resilient, scalable AI infrastructure. The role also involves documenting infrastructure, contributing to automation efforts, and supporting continuous improvements to Nucleus AI’s pretraining platform.
Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong Infrastructure and System Administration skills, including experience with servers, storage, containerization, and orchestration tools.
• Candidates should possess Networking and Network Security skills, with the ability to design, secure, and maintain networks supporting distributed training workloads.
• Candidates should possess Troubleshooting skills for diagnosing performance, reliability, and configuration issues across complex data and compute systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms or hybrid on-prem/cloud environments, and familiarity with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools.
• Knowledge of data engineering concepts and performance optimization for large-scale data pipelines is beneficial.
• Proficiency in scripting or programming (e.g., Python, Bash) to automate infrastructure tasks and workflows.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
