Manager – Finance Compliance

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia  | Function: Finance | Reports to: Senior Finance Manager | Individual Contributor role

Job Purpose

You will be part of the Local Service Centre Finance Team, responsible for delivering finance administration, statutory, tax and corporate compliance activities across a portfolio of countries and legal entities.

The role covers statutory financial reporting, corporate income tax, indirect taxes, finance compliance, corporate secretarial matters and related account reconciliations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Global Shared Centre (GSC) in Manila, Group and local Finance teams, external auditors, tax advisors and Company Secretarial providers to ensure all compliance requirements are completed accurately, efficiently and within statutory deadlines.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role requiring strong ownership, technical understanding and the ability to manage multiple entities (approx 60), countries and competing deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

Statutory Reporting, Audit & Corporate Compliance

  • Manage and oversee statutory audit and financial reporting requirements for a portfolio of legal entities across assigned countries.
  • Coordinate audit planning, timelines, information requests, statutory deliverables and resolution of audit findings with external auditors, GSC, local Finance teams and Group.
  • Ensure statutory financial statements and related filings are completed accurately and within regulatory deadlines.
  • Oversee corporate secretarial compliance, including annual returns, statutory records, changes in corporate structure and other regulatory filings.
  • Monitor compliance calendars and ensure all statutory and corporate obligations are appropriately tracked and escalated.

 Tax Compliance

  • Manage and oversee direct and indirect tax compliance across assigned countries, including corporate income tax, VAT/GST, withholding tax,  tax audit and other applicable taxes.
  • Coordinate tax filings, payments, reconciliations, assessments, refunds, tax audits, notices and other tax authority matters.
  • Review tax computations, supporting schedules and reconciliations prepared by internal teams and external advisors.
  • Work closely with Group Tax and external tax advisors on technical matters, compliance requirements and tax audits.
  • Identify potential tax risks and ensure appropriate actions are taken within required timelines.

 External Provider & GSC Management

  • Manage day-to-day relationships with external tax, accounting, audit and Company Secretarial providers.
  • Work closely with the Manila GSC to ensure clear ownership, accurate deliverables and timely completion of compliance activities.
  • Review and challenge external provider deliverables where required, ensuring appropriate quality, completeness and compliance with Group requirements.
  • Establish effective escalation processes, controls and follow-up mechanisms for outstanding compliance matters.
  • Monitor service delivery and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency and quality.

 Technical, Risk & Compliance Management

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of statutory accounting, tax and corporate compliance requirements across assigned countries.
  • Investigate and resolve complex accounting, tax and compliance issues, including identifying root causes and determining appropriate actions.
  • Assess compliance risks, ensure issues are escalated appropriately and drive timely resolution.
  • Review technical advice and challenge recommendations where appropriate to ensure they are commercially practical and compliant with applicable regulations.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and audit trails to support compliance activities and audit requirements.

Required Qualifications, Experience, Behaviours 

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in accounting, tax, audit, finance administration or compliance.
  • Strong experience in statutory audit, tax compliance, finance administration and corporate compliance is required.
  • Experience managing multiple countries and a high volume of legal entities is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a shared service, regional finance or multinational environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of statutory accounting, corporate tax, indirect tax and regulatory compliance.
  • Hands-on experience in managing external auditors, tax advisors and professional service providers.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple deadlines and resolve issues promptly.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an inquisitive mindset and willingness to investigate issues down to the detail.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of ownership, accountability and persistence.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, international and changing environment.
  • Advanced or strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other finance systems.
  • Able to work effectively under pressure and meet strict statutory and internal deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing or a related discipline.
  • Professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent is desirable.
  • Strong written and spoken English is required.
  • Additional language capability relevant to the assigned markets is advantageous.
  • Big 4 audit or large accounting firm experience is desirable.
