Role Overview

We are looking for an L2 Database Administrator to support enterprise database environments in a managed-services setup.

The role primarily focuses on Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL, with exposure to AWS database services and other relational databases. The candidate will be responsible for production database support, troubleshooting, performance, backup/recovery and high-availability operations.

Core Responsibilities

• Provide L2 production support for Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL environments.
• Troubleshoot database availability, connectivity, performance, job failures and access-related issues.
• Monitor and resolve database alerts and incidents within agreed SLA timelines.
• Perform backup, restore and recovery activities and support recovery/DR testing.
• Troubleshoot slow queries, blocking, deadlocks, indexing and resource bottlenecks and perform basic to intermediate tuning.
• Support HA/DR environments, including Always On, clustering, replication, log shipping and failover arrangements.
• Implement and support database changes, upgrades, patching and maintenance activities.
• Support AWS database services such as Amazon RDS and Aurora.
• Work with application, infrastructure, cloud, network and storage teams for cross-platform incident resolution.
• Follow ITIL-based Incident, Problem, Change and Request Management processes and maintain operational documentation.

Required Skills

• 3–6 years of hands-on database administration experience in enterprise or managed-services environments.
• Strong hands-on experience in Microsoft SQL Server administration.
• Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database and/or Azure SQL Managed Instance.
• Strong troubleshooting experience in production database environments.
• Practical experience with backup, restore and recovery.
• Good understanding of database performance monitoring and tuning.
• Experience with HA/DR and failover technologies, preferably SQL Server Always On, clustering, replication or log shipping.
• Exposure to AWS RDS/Aurora.
• Experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL is preferred.
• Good understanding of database security, access and permissions.
• Experience working in an ITIL/managed-services environment with SLA-based production support.

Preferred

• Exposure to Oracle, MariaDB, MongoDB or other database platforms.
• Scripting/automation using T-SQL, PowerShell, Python or Bash.
• Exposure to Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, SolarWinds, Splunk, SCOM or similar monitoring tools.
• Experience with database migration or modernization activities.
• Relevant Microsoft/Azure/AWS or ITIL certification.
