Senior Interior Design Lead

Kuala Lumpur | Full-Time | In-Person
RM3,500 – RM5,000 per month

We are looking for a designer, not just someone who produces drawings, someone who wants to take ownership of design , from the first idea and mood board, through drawings, detailing, client discussions and site, all the way to seeing the project built.

We are a small, design-led studio working across interiors, architecture, event spaces, branding and experimental installations.

Because our team is compact, you will not be hidden inside one department doing the same task every day. You will work directly with the founder/director, contribute your own ideas, speak with clients and contractors, go to site, solve real problems and gradually take responsibility for your own projects.

We care about how a space looks, but equally important is why a design decision is made.

How does someone move through the space?
How should the space make them feel?
Why is an element placed there?
Why should one material, proportion, light condition or detail work better than another?

For us, good design is not decoration. It is a series of considered decisions that shape experience, behaviour and atmosphere.

What You Will Do

You will be involved across the full design process, including:

  • Concept design and design development
  • Mood boards and visual direction
  • Space planning
  • Material and finishes selection
  • AutoCAD drawings
  • SketchUp modelling
  • 3D visualisation and rendering
  • Interior detailing
  • Construction drawings
  • Tender drawings and documentation
  • Client presentations
  • Client meetings
  • Site visits and site coordination
  • Contractor and supplier coordination
  • Reviewing drawings and site information
  • Managing and guiding junior designers
  • Project coordination and project management

You will be encouraged to propose your own concepts and design ideas, rather than simply waiting for a design to be handed to you.

Over time, we expect you to develop the ability to lead your own projects.

Who We Are Looking For

We value people who are:

  • Creative with a strong sense of taste
  • Technically capable
  • Highly organised
  • Fast and resourceful
  • Independent
  • Curious
  • Comfortable expressing an opinion
  • Responsible and accountable
  • Detail-oriented
  • Strong communicators
  • Confident dealing with contractors
  • Comfortable speaking with clients
  • Able to guide junior team members
  • Ambitious and willing to learn
  • Experimental in their thinking
  • Able to solve problems without waiting for every answer

We don't expect one person to be perfect at everything.

What matters to us is a combination of taste, thinking, attitude, technical ability and ownership.

Technical Requirements

Essential

  • AutoCAD — strong proficiency is compulsory
  • Strong understanding of construction detailing
  • Previous site experience
  • SketchUp proficiency
  • Ability to produce and understand construction documentation

Preferred

  • Enscape / V-Ray / D5 or similar rendering software
  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • Other 3D and visualisation software

Diploma or Degree in Interior Architecture, Interior Design, Architecture or a related discipline preferred.

Approximately 3–5 years of relevant experience preferred.

What We Don't Want

This role probably isn't suitable for someone who:

  • Needs instructions for every task before moving
  • Only wants to produce renderings
  • Does not want to go to site
  • Becomes uncomfortable when designs evolve or change
  • Avoids responsibility
  • Hands a problem to somebody else instead of trying to solve it
  • Wants to remain only a drafter

Design projects change. Sites create problems. Clients change their minds. Details need to be solved.

We are looking for someone who can think, adapt and take ownership.

What You Can Grow Into

We don't want you to stay as a drafter.

Our goal is for you to eventually be capable of taking a project and:

Think → Conceptualise → Design → Present → Detail → Coordinate → Build → Complete

You should eventually be comfortable developing the concept, presenting your ideas, coordinating consultants, dealing with contractors, managing drawings and bringing the project through to completion.

How We Work

Our studio is:

Small in team. Casual in atmosphere. Serious about design.

There is less hierarchy than in a conventional corporate office.

Everyone talks to each other. Ideas can come from anyone. Music is often playing in the studio. Projects can move quickly and deadlines can sometimes become intense.

That means you will also receive responsibility faster.

You will work directly with the founder/director and get exposure to parts of a project that designers in larger organisations may only encounter much later in their careers.

Salary

RM3,500 – RM5,000 per month, depending on experience and ability.

As a general guide:

RM3,500 – RM4,000
For a strong designer who can contribute creatively and technically but still requires guidance in independently running projects.

RM4,500 – RM5,000
For someone capable of independently handling design development, drawings, clients, contractors and site coordination with limited supervision.

Benefits

  • EPF
  • SOCSO
  • EIS
  • Annual leave
  • Performance bonus
  • Project bonus
  • Parking
  • Claimable site transportation
  • Monday to Friday

How to Apply

CV + Portfolio are required.

We care about your portfolio more than a long cover letter.

Please show us more than beautiful renderings.

We want to see:

  • How you think
  • Concept development
  • Plans and drawings
  • Detailing
  • 3D work
  • Material thinking
  • Completed projects where available
  • Your role and contribution to each project

When reviewing an applicant, we look at taste, technical ability, attitude, personality, speed, detailing, communication and — most importantly — how you think.

If you want a role where you can take more ownership, contribute your own ideas and see how design moves from an idea on screen to something people actually experience, we would like to see your work.

Pay: RM3,500.00 - RM5,500.00 per month

Benefits:

  • Flexible schedule
  • Free parking
  • Maternity leave
  • Opportunities for promotion
  • Parental leave

Work Location: In person
