Fintonia Group is building a tech-enabled digital assets financial services platform, with offices in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, combining a strong background in traditional finance with disruptive technology.

You will be joining a fun and fast-paced environment and will be working with a small team of seasoned industry professionals with experience working at top tier global investment banks and industry leaders.

The Role:

The Senior Backend Engineer builds the platform behind that lending business: the loan, collateral, and risk systems, and the infrastructure they run on. The systems are in active development, so the role is hands-on and ground-up across backend development, deployment, and CI/CD, with a direct hand in getting the platform to launch. The role will be reporting to the Head of Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

Platform Development

• Build out the backend of the firm's Loan Management System (LMS) and Portfolio Management System (PMS) across six independently deployable Python services, and maintain them through launch.
• Develop within an event-sourced architecture, maintaining the integrity of the ledger that every downstream figure is derived from.
• Implement loan origination, drawdown, amendment, and repayment logic against written product specifications.
• Design and maintain the APIs consumed by the TypeScript front end through generated OpenAPI types.

Risk & Margin Systems

• Implement multi-exchange price monitoring and the daily settlement price calculation.
• Build margin call and liquidation triggers, including cure window mechanics and escalation to the operations queue.
• Implement collateral, exposure, and cure quantum calculations to the specifications set by the Head of Lending.
• Maintain the regression suite that reconciles every product's economics to the stated figures before release.

Infrastructure & Deployment

• Own the CI/CD pipeline and deployment across staging and production: Docker, AWS ECS/Fargate, Terraform, and controlled release gates.
• Own PostgreSQL schema design, migrations under an expand-then-contract discipline, and concurrency controls on money-moving records.
• Maintain monitoring, alerting, backup, and recovery procedures.

Cross-Functional Contribution

• Work with the Head of Lending on product requirements, validation rules, and what the system must refuse to book.
• Support Operations on custody, settlement, and loan lifecycle workflows.
• Contribute to audit and regulatory evidence requirements alongside Legal & Compliance.
• Review the work of other engineers on the team, and be reviewed in turn.

Requirements:

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience building production backend systems, ideally within financial infrastructure: trading, exchange, brokerage, clearing, payments, or risk.
• Strong Python engineering; the current stack is FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, and Pydantic.
• Demonstrated experience building with AI coding tools, and the judgment to apply appropriate review standards to AI-assisted work.
• Hands-on ownership of deployment and CI/CD: AWS, Docker, infrastructure as code, and release pipelines.
• Production-depth PostgreSQL experience, including schema design, migrations, and concurrency.
• Rigour in numerical precision for financial systems; decimal arithmetic throughout, never floating point.
• Ability to work from a written specification and raise contradictions in it rather than implement them.
• Experience with event-driven or event-sourced architectures preferred.
• Exposure to order management, execution, or market data systems preferred.
• Exposure to digital asset infrastructure — custody, exchange APIs, on-chain settlement — preferred but not required.
• Lending, margin, or credit domain knowledge is not required; product expertise sits with the Head of Lending.
