Job Description: Temporary Secondary English Teacher

Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic, qualified, and adaptable Temporary Secondary English Teacher to join our international school. The successful candidate will step in to deliver high-quality, student-centered lessons following the Cambridge Secondary curriculum (Lower Secondary English and IGCSE First/Second Language English). This contract position is ideal for an educator who can hit the ground running, manage classrooms effectively, and maintain continuity of learning during the regular teacher's absence.

Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Curriculum Delivery

• Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, high-impact English lessons aligned with the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) syllabus.
• Cover coursework for Cambridge Lower Secondary English and IGCSE English as a First Language (0500) or Second Language (0510/0511).
• Develop students' core competencies in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
• Utilize modern educational technology and platforms (e.g., Microsoft Office 365, Teams, OneDrive) to facilitate learning.

Assessment & Student Support

• Mark and assess students' classwork, assignments, and mock exam papers using past Cambridge rubrics.
• Provide constructive, timely feedback to guide student progress and exam readiness.
• Maintain discipline and a positive, inclusive classroom environment in line with school policies.

Collaboration & Communication

• Follow lesson handovers and collaborate closely with the English Department Head to ensure syllabus timelines are met.
• Maintain open communication with parents and school leadership regarding student performance or behavior when required.
• Participate in scheduled department meetings, school events, or parent-teacher conferences if they fall within the contract period.

Job Requirements & QualificationsAcademic & Professional Background

• Degree: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in English, Education (Major in English/TESL/TEFL), or a closely related discipline.
• Certification: A teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, Diploma in Education, or equivalent) is highly advantageous.

Experience

• Minimum 1–2 years of experience teaching the Cambridge/IGCSE English curriculum in an international school setting.
• Proven track record of managing secondary school classrooms effectively.

Skills & Competencies

• Language Proficiency: Native or near-native fluency in written and spoken English.
• Familiarity with CAIE marking standards and exam formatting.
• Strong interpersonal skills to quickly build rapport with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to adapt swiftly to a new school culture and digital learning environment.

Work Status

• Must currently reside in Malaysia with a valid legal right to work, or be eligible for immediate temporary onboarding.

Pay: RM2,500.00 - RM2,800.00 per month
