Senior / Lead Planning Engineer

Industry - Oil and Gas / Petrochemical Shutdown Projects

Location - KL, Malaysia

We are looking for an experienced Senior / Lead Planning Engineer to join our client in Kuala Lumpur, supporting multiple Oil & Gas shutdown and turnaround projects across Malaysia.

This is a central planning and resource coordination role, working closely with multiple Project Managers and project teams to ensure manpower and resources are effectively planned, allocated and mobilised across the company’s projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed shutdown and turnaround schedules using Primavera P6

• Work closely with multiple Project Managers to understand upcoming project requirements, schedules and resource demands

• Prepare manpower forecasts, resource plans and manpower histograms across multiple projects

• Coordinate manpower mobilisation and demobilisation requirements

• Monitor resource utilisation and identify potential shortages, conflicts or excess capacity

• Support Project Managers in determining the manpower and resource requirements for upcoming shutdowns

• Develop project look-ahead plans and maintain visibility of future manpower requirements

• Coordinate the allocation and movement of personnel between projects where appropriate

• Monitor actual manpower against planned requirements and highlight variances

• Track productivity and resource utilisation during project execution

• Identify opportunities to improve manpower utilisation and reduce idle time

• Support Project Managers with recovery planning when projects experience delays or changes in scope

• Prepare regular management reports covering project progress, manpower, resource requirements and upcoming mobilisation needs

• Maintain an overall view of the company's shutdown project portfolio and help ensure resources are available where and when required

Requirements

• Degree/Diploma in Engineering, Project Controls, Construction Management or a related discipline

• 5+ years' experience in planning/project controls, preferably within Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Refinery or Industrial projects

• Strong experience with shutdowns and turnarounds

• Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6

• Demonstrable experience in manpower planning, resource forecasting and mobilisation

• Experience working across multiple projects or supporting multiple Project Managers

• Good understanding of construction/shutdown activities, productivity and work-front requirements

• Strong analytical and organisational skills

• Ability to manage changing priorities and coordinate requirements across several projects simultaneously

• Good communication skills and confidence dealing with Project Managers, site teams and management

Experience with major refinery, petrochemical, LNG or other large-scale shutdown projects will be highly relevant.
