Tanggungjawab

Key Responsibilities

  • Keep our MySQL estate available, backed up, recoverable and performing — across production, disaster recovery, UAT and development.
  • Run day-to-day database operations: monitoring, backup and restore, patching, user access and schema changes.
  • Support clustering, replication and disaster recovery setups — build them, test them and prove they fail over.
  • Document configurations, backup schedules, recovery procedures and change records.
  • Learn the data model behind the platform and grow into owning database environments of your own.

Database Administration

  • Install, configure and patch MySQL, MariaDB or Percona Server on Linux.
  • Manage users, roles and privileges on a least-privilege basis.
  • Apply schema changes and data migrations through the change process, with a tested rollback plan.
  • Monitor database health — connections, locks, slow queries, replication lag, disk and buffer pool usage — and act on what the metrics show.
  • Maintain capacity forecasts covering data growth, storage headroom, archiving and purging.

High Availability, Clustering and Disaster Recovery

  • Build and support replication topologies: asynchronous and semi-synchronous, source-replica, and cluster setups such as Galera Cluster or MySQL InnoDB Cluster.
  • Support managed database services where we use them — Amazon RDS and Aurora for MySQL, or Azure Database for MySQL — including parameter groups, read replicas, failover and maintenance windows.
  • Configure and verify failover and take part in DR drills against agreed RTO and RPO targets.
  • Keep DR databases in step with production and hold the evidence that they are.

Backup and Recovery

  • Run and monitor backup schedules using mysqldump, Percona XtraBackup, storage snapshots or the equivalent.
  • Test restores on a regular cycle — a backup nobody has restored is not a backup.
  • Maintain point-in-time recovery through binary log management and retention.
  • Keep retention periods aligned to client contracts and regulatory requirements.

Performance and Troubleshooting

Investigate slow queries using EXPLAIN, the slow query log and Performance Schema, and recommend indexing or query changes.

  • Tune server configuration — buffer pool, connections, temporary tables, InnoDB settings — against measured workload rather than guesswork.
  • Work with developers on data model and query design before it reaches production.
  • Join incident response for database outages and degradation and write up the root cause afterwards.

Security and Compliance

  • Apply database controls under our ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and PCI DSS v4.0 control environment — access control, encryption in transit and at rest, audit logging and separation of duties.
  • Support periodic access reviews, vulnerability remediation and audit evidence collection.
  • Handle production data, including cardholder and personal data, under our data handling and masking rules — particularly when refreshing non-production environments.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years’ experience administering MySQL or a comparable relational database. Fresh graduates with strong SQL and Linux fundamentals are welcome to apply.
  • Proficient in Linux administration on the command line — filesystems, permissions, services, storage, and process and resource troubleshooting.
  • Strong SQL, and a working understanding of relational design, indexing, transactions and isolation levels.
  • Understanding of replication, clustering, backup strategies and disaster recovery — and able to explain the trade-offs between them.
  • Scripting in Bash or Python to automate routine tasks and checks.
  • A methodical approach to production change, including testing the rollback before applying the change.
  • Clear written English for runbooks, change records and handover notes.
  • Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.

Advantageous

  • Galera Cluster, MySQL InnoDB Cluster, ProxySQL or MySQL Router.
  • Percona XtraBackup, Percona Toolkit or Orchestrator.
  • Managed cloud databases on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
  • Monitoring tooling — Zabbix, Prometheus with mysqld_exporter, Grafana, or Percona Monitoring and Management.
  • Other database platforms — PostgreSQL, Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Exposure to regulated environments such as financial services or payments, and to audit work.

Working Arrangements

  • Based at our Kuala Lumpur office, Vertical Bangsar South, on standard office hours.
  • Participation in an on-call rotation covering production incidents and scheduled maintenance windows, which fall outside office hours.
  • Occasional onsite work at data centres and client premises, including out-of-hours cutovers and DR drills.

Pay: RM3,200.00 - RM3,600.00 per month

Benefits:

  • Professional development
  • Work from home

Work Location: In person
