Role Description The Cost Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Greater Kuala Lumpur. This role is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for shipbuilding and shiprepair projects, including materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and overheads. Day-to-day tasks include analyzing project specifications and drawings, gathering pricing data and quotations, developing cost models, and supporting budgeting and tender submissions. The Cost Estimator works closely with project managers, engineering, procurement, and finance teams to refine estimates, monitor cost trends, and support cost control throughout the project lifecycle. The role also involves updating cost databases, preparing variance analyses, and contributing to continuous improvement in estimating processes.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in cost-related disciplines, including Cost Management, Cost Control, and Budgeting.
  • Demonstrated ability in Project Estimation for engineering, construction, or marine-related projects.
  • Excellent Analytical Skills for interpreting technical documents, pricing data, and cost drivers.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and relevant estimating or ERP software; familiarity with marine or industrial projects is an advantage.
  • Diploma or degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Attention to detail, strong numerical accuracy, and the ability to work under time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with multidisciplinary teams and external vendors.
  • Experience in shipbuilding, shiprepair, or heavy industry cost estimation is a plus.
