Job Summary

We seek an experienced Automation / MES Engineer to support digital manufacturing and shopfloor systems in a pharmaceutical environment. You will bridge business, manufacturing, and IT teams to ensure effective operation and advancement of manufacturing technologies.

Responsibilities

• Manage the lifecycle of shopfloor systems including Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Data Historians, and system integration solutions to ensure operational reliability.
• Collaborate with business and manufacturing stakeholders to gather functional requirements and translate them into effective technology solutions.
• Evaluate and compare MES and shopfloor platforms by analyzing their capabilities, benefits, and technical aspects to recommend optimal solutions.
• Facilitate integration between IT and OT environments by supporting plant connectivity and industrial system interfaces.
• Partner with infrastructure teams to define and meet requirements for servers, hardware, memory, system architecture, and application environments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues arising from interactions between applications, infrastructure, and shopfloor systems to maintain system uptime.
• Contribute to application lifecycle management, governance, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and compliance.
• Support project, change, incident, and problem management activities related to manufacturing systems to ensure smooth operations and timely resolution.
• Collaborate with global technology and technical stakeholders to address system issues and implement enhancements.
• Drive digital manufacturing, Smart Factory, and Industry 4.0 initiatives by applying relevant technologies and best practices.

Required competencies and certifications

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Automation, Manufacturing Systems, or related discipline.
• 4–6 years of experience in manufacturing systems, MES, automation, IT/OT, or related technology environments.
• Proven experience working with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or shopfloor systems.
• Experience in pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, or other GxP-regulated manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of IT/OT integration, plant connectivity, and industrial technology environments.
• Understanding of system architecture and IT infrastructure including servers, hardware, and application environments.
• Experience with application lifecycle management, system integration, or application management.
• Familiarity with project management, incident management, change management, and problem-solving processes.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills to work effectively across business, technical, infrastructure, and global teams.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Preferred competencies and qualifications

• Experience with IIoT / Industrial IoT platforms.
• Experience with Data Historian solutions.
• Experience with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with MES platforms such as Siemens solutions or PAS-X.
• Knowledge of Smart Factory, Industry 4.0, or digital manufacturing initiatives.
• Experience supporting validated systems and understanding of GxP, validation, and compliance requirements.
