We’re implementing a new Commodity Trading & Risk Management (CTRM) system — a major transformation that will modernise our trading operations, strengthen controls, and enable smarter, data-driven decision making across the T&S value chain.

As Lead Functional Business Analyst, you’ll shape the functional design and delivery of this program, translating business needs into solutions that drive performance and efficiency across Trading, Risk, Operations, and Finance. You’ll lead a team of Business Analysts, partner with stakeholders at every level, and ensure that every aspect of the solution meets business requirements and adds measurable value.

This is a pivotal, hands-on role requiring deep understanding of the physical trade lifecycle, exceptional analytical capability, and the ability to influence outcomes across business and technology domains.

About the Role

This role leads a team of Risk Controllers within the Middle Office, providing independent oversight of trade validation, exposure and P&L reporting, valuations, and risk metrics while driving continuous improvement in systems, controls, governance and Middle Office operational processes.

The Risk Control Excellence Manager acts as a key control point between Trading, Finance, and Operations, ensuring adherence to trading mandates, regulatory requirements, and internal governance standards, while delivering timely, accurate insights to support commercial decision-making.

As part of a global Middle Office function spanning Singapore, the US, Australia and New Zealand, this role also will lead the implementation of a new CTRM system for the Middle Office, design new tools and processes through the various phases of the CTRM project. The Risk Control Excellence Manager will play an important role in defining the future operating model of the Risk Control function within the Middle Office, prioritise system enhancements and continuous improvements while upholding Ampol’s standards of operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Risk Control & Governance

• Prepare and present quality content on risk and P&L at the Enterprise Commodity Risk Management (ECRM) meeting
• Lead independent validation of trading positions, exposures, mark-to-market valuations, and P&L reporting.
• Ensure compliance with trading mandates, delegated authorities and adherence to ECRM guidelines and risk policies.
• Regular review and update of ECRM guidelines and risk policies
• Develop a deep understanding of a portfolio of trading and supply desks
• Ensure integrity of pricing curves, market data, and valuation inputs
• Maintain a strong control environment across Front, Middle, and Back Office processes
• Support internal and external audits, assurance reviews, and regulatory inquiries

Systems, Process and Control Excellence

• Lead Middle Office transformation initiatives, including CTRM implementation, process redesign, automation, reporting enhancements and optimisation with AI.
• Identify and deliver opportunities to simplify, standardize, digitize, and automate processes.
• Support the establishment and tracking of KPIs and performance metrics to measure operational effectiveness and control performance for the trading business.
• Ensure documentation, procedures, and control frameworks remain current and fit for purpose.
• Implement standardised best practices across regions and desks.

Leadership & People Management:

• Lead, coach and develop a team of Risk Controllers
• Create a high-performance culture that fosters accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
• Build technical capability across exposure management, valuation, risk reporting, and governance.
• Coach team members on risk management principles, controls and stakeholder management.

Qualifications & Experience

• Tertiary qualification in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, Engineering or a related discipline; CFA, CPA or FRM preferred.
• 12+ years’ experience in product control, risk control or trading analysis within physical oil or commodity trading.
• At least three years’ experience leading and developing teams.
• Strong knowledge of physical and derivatives trading, including the trade lifecycle, contract structures, exposure management, mark-to-market valuation and P&L attribution.
• Experience implementing or enhancing CTRM systems; knowledge of platforms such as Allegro or Aspect is advantageous.
• Demonstrated experience delivering operational excellence, process redesign, automation and control improvements in a trading environment.
• Advanced Excel and Power BI capability; VBA, Python or similar automation skills are advantageous.
• Strong commercial judgement, numeracy, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot systems and data issues.
• Effective communicator and stakeholder manager, comfortable working across functions, regions and time zones.
• Self-directed and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritise and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
