Position Summary
The Assistant Manager – Legal & Compliance will serve as the second-in-command to the Head of Group Legal & Compliance and play a key role in managing the Group's legal, compliance and governance functions across multiple jurisdictions.
This role is expected to independently manage legal matters, provide commercially practical advice to business stakeholders, supervise junior team members, and lead selected legal and compliance projects. The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced regional environment and balancing legal risk with commercial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Corporate Legal
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements including client agreements, consultancy agreements, service agreements, NDAs, partnership agreements and other corporate documents.
- Provide practical legal advice to business units on commercial and operational matters.
- Support regional corporate transactions, new business initiatives and expansion into new markets.
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal opinions where required.
Compliance & Governance
- Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining Group governance and compliance frameworks.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments across relevant jurisdictions.
- Review and update internal policies, SOPs and governance documentation.
- Support PDPA, AML/CFT, KYC and other regulatory compliance initiatives.
Risk & Investigations
- Assist in managing internal investigations, disciplinary matters and compliance reviews.
- Identify legal and operational risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate with HR, Operations and Management on sensitive employment and compliance matters.
Legal Operations
- Manage legal workflow and prioritisation across the department.
- Supervise and mentor junior team members.
- Review work prepared by Legal Executives before escalation.
- Improve legal processes, templates and document management systems.
Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with senior management, business leaders and external legal counsel.
- Build collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders across multiple business functions.
- Represent the Legal & Compliance function in cross-functional projects where required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent.
- 5–8 years' PQE or equivalent in-house/private practice experience.
- Strong commercial contract drafting and negotiation skills.
- Experience in corporate, commercial or employment law preferred.
- Experience in compliance, governance or regulatory matters is advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
- Strong commercial awareness and sound judgement.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
