JOB DESCRIPTION – STAFF NURSE

Position: Staff Nurse
Department: Clinical / Nursing
Workplace: General Practitioner (GP) Clinic
Location: Malaysia
Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time

Job Summary

We are seeking a responsible, compassionate, and competent Staff Nurse to join our GP clinic team. The Staff Nurse will provide quality nursing care, assist doctors during consultations and procedures, attend to patients, and ensure the smooth operation of daily clinical activities in accordance with established clinic procedures and applicable healthcare standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional and compassionate nursing care to patients attending the clinic.
  • Conduct patient assessment, including taking vital signs, medical history, and relevant clinical information.
  • Assist doctors during patient consultations, minor procedures, and clinical examinations.
  • Perform nursing procedures such as wound dressing, injections, medication administration, nebulisation, and other procedures within the nurse's scope of practice.
  • Prepare patients for medical examinations, investigations, and procedures.
  • Monitor patients' condition and promptly report any significant findings or changes to the doctor.
  • Assist with emergency management and provide appropriate first aid when required.
  • Perform specimen collection and ensure proper handling, labelling, and storage of specimens.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records and nursing documentation.
  • Ensure medications, medical supplies, instruments, and emergency equipment are properly stored, maintained, and readily available.
  • Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, infection prevention, and safety standards within the clinic.
  • Assist with stock monitoring, inventory checks, and replenishment of medical and nursing supplies.
  • Educate patients on prescribed medications, treatment plans, wound care, health maintenance, and follow-up appointments where appropriate.
  • Provide courteous and professional communication to patients and their family members.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with clinic policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with doctors, clinic assistants, and other healthcare team members to ensure efficient patient care.
  • Assist with opening, closing, and general daily operations of the clinic when required.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the doctor or clinic management.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognised institution.
  • Valid registration with the Malaysian Nursing Board (Lembaga Jururawat Malaysia).
  • Previous experience in a GP clinic, outpatient setting, or primary healthcare environment is an advantage.
  • Good clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a healthcare team.
  • Responsible, punctual, patient-focused, and able to maintain a professional manner.
  • Willing to work shifts, weekends, or public holidays when required.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to maintain electronic or written patient records.
