The appointee supports the music teachers in the teaching process in order to attain educational excellence. Demonstrating a positive attitude towards the teaching process. Communicating, liaising and developing sound relationships with child, teacher, parent and colleague thus enhancing the teaching process.
The role reports to Head of Infant School through Head of Music (Infant School). This is a part-time role of approximately 2.5 days a week.
1. Care of Student
- Assist the teacher in the care of the child;
- Be proficient in developing a rapport with the child;
- Display a positive attitude in encouraging the child to become independent;
- Supervision of children referring to the school’s code of conduct for behaviour and discipline; and
- Make play/work observations and feedback to the teacher on the child, as necessary.
2. Curriculum
- Assist the teacher in the delivery of the taught music curriculum, including playing the piano when required (this is ideal but not essential);
- Carry out planned curriculum tasks with the individual or group under teacher instruction;
- Be aware of forward planning and events in the curriculum, contributing ideas as necessary;
- Supervise children in planned activities under teacher instruction;
- Support teacher with classroom observation or assessment of children, as required;
- Support supply cover in teacher’s absence; and
- Run an instrumental or vocal ensemble CCA as required with support of a specialist music tutor initially.
3. Classroom Organisation
- Follow through on the teacher’s/class daily routine;
- Anticipate the organisational needs of the classes and act upon them;
- Ensure the correct supply of stationery materials;
- Assist in the collection of proformas;
- Collect and distribute letters to/from parents;
- Organise resources for the classes and events, as required; and
- Maintain educational equipment used by the classes, including care and hygiene.
4. Artwork

Be proficient in the preparation and dismantling of displays in the unit eg. Letters, borders, mounts and photographs.
5. Administration
- Be aware and demonstrate proficiency in the administrative procedures and duties;
- Assist with stock inventory;
- Devise and complete data or checklists for tasks as required, eg CCA registers, event lists, report data; and
- Check and follow up on routine administration.
6. Communication
- Be able to communicate clearly with children;
- Be able to develop the child’s communication, using the appropriate skills and questions;
- Encourage a child’s development through appropriate activities;
- Give regular feedback to the teacher on class activity or behaviour;
- Communicate confidently with teachers and their assistants across the Infant School;
- Communicate regularly with Head of Music and Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistant Liaison personnel;
- Support correspondence with parents;
- Develop confidence in dealing with parents, referring to the teacher as required; and
- Dealing with queries from other areas, informing the teacher as required.
7. Information Technology
- Gain knowledge of and proficiency in the IT programs used by the classes;
- Assist the teacher in supervision of IT activity; and
- Use the computer programs available to assist with displays or classroom administration.
8. General
- Demonstrate a positive and caring attitude towards the child.
- Work in areas of the school in other job-related tasks as circumstances require.
- Maintain a standard of personal image in keeping with the classroom role.
- On an annual basis, complete the Review and Development exercise and undertake identified development opportunities. Maintain an accurate and up to date record of all Professional Development opportunities; and
- Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

- Minimum Diploma/Degree holder preferably in the relevant discipline
- Experience of working with children
- Experience working in an international school environment will be an added advantage
- Good interpersonal, communication and people skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications, Google Docs and knowledge of iPad is essential.
- Positive, enthusiastic, and mature individuals who enjoy working with children and teachers.
