Purpose of Job

The Programme Officer, Project (Nature Based Solutions) is responsible for coordinating the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of Nature-based Solutions interventions under the Adyen-funded project in the Setiu Wetlands landscape. The position will provide technical and operational support to strengthen ecosystem resilience and community-based climate adaptation through integrated landscape management, while fostering collaboration with the Malaysian Red Crescent, government agencies, local communities, academic institutions, and other project partners. The officer will ensure that project activities are implemented in accordance with WWF-Malaysia's conservation strategy, donor requirements, and the WWF standards of Nature-based Solutions.


Key Outputs

  1. Supporting the preparation of, and implementing assigned components of, the approved project workplan to ensure the effective delivery of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) interventions under the Adyen-funded project in the Setiu Wetlands landscape. The work plan should integrate ecosystem restoration, climate adaptation, community resilience, and stakeholder engagement, while ensuring alignment with WWF-Malaysia's conservation priorities, WWF NbS Standards, and donor requirements.
  2. Coordinating and strengthening partnerships with the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC), government agencies, local communities, academic institutions and other stakeholders to facilitate the successful implementation, monitoring and scaling of Nature-based Solutions within the Setiu landscape.
  3. Preparing timely technical reports, monitoring project outcomes, and documenting lessons learned to demonstrate the effectiveness of Nature-based Solutions in strengthening ecosystem health and community resilience, while supporting donor reporting, organisational learning, and knowledge sharing.


Major Activities

  1. Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of assigned Nature-based Solutions interventions, including ecosystem restoration, climate adaptation, biodiversity conservation, and community resilience activities within the Setiu landscape.
  2. Provide technical support to project partners, consultants, and local communities to ensure that project activities are implemented in accordance with WWF NbS Standards, approved work plans, and donor requirements.
  3. Coordinate stakeholder engagement and maintain effective working relationships with the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC), government agencies, local communities, academic institutions, and other relevant partners to support integrated landscape management.
  4. Support the planning and implementation of community-based climate adaptation activities, including climate risk assessments, ecosystem-based adaptation initiatives, and capacity-building programmes where appropriate.
  5. Monitor project implementation, maintain project documentation, and prepare technical and donor reports in accordance with WWF-Malaysia's project management and reporting requirements.
  6. Contribute, as required, to the development of project-related funding proposals, concept notes, technical publications, communication materials, and knowledge products related to Nature-based Solutions and climate adaptation.
  7. Represent WWF-Malaysia in relevant meetings, workshops, field visits, and technical discussions relating to Nature-based Solutions, climate adaptation, ecosystem restoration, and project implementation, as requested.
  8. Undertake other duties as assigned by the Climate Adaptation Coordinator in support of the successful implementation of Nature-based Solutions Project in Setiu and WWF-Malaysia's climate adaptation strategies.


Specifications

  1. University degree in environmental science, ecology, conservation, natural resource management, climate change/adaptation, disaster risk reduction, environmental management/sustainability, or a related field.
  2. Relevant working experience in planning and monitoring of conservation projects is an advantage.
  3. Knowledge of and commitment to Nature-based Solutions, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, ecosystem restoration, and conservation in Malaysia.
  4. Excellent writing and speaking skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
  5. Computer literate, with the ability to use appropriate software and analytical tools (example: QGIS, ArcGIS, SPSS and R) for project analysis, monitoring, reporting and presentation of findings.
  6. Proven exposure to or experience of working with government is an advantage.
  7. Possess a calm temperament, with a methodical and meticulous approach to work.
  8. Good interpersonal skills, innovative thinking, versatile ability to work in a team and work independently.
  9. In possession of a valid passport and willingness to travel as required.

Salary Range

RM3,500 - RM4,500
