About the Group

Rooftop Energy is part of Altus Energy, a Malaysian power and energy-technology group with more than two decades of operating history. The group designs, builds and operates power assets, and develops software products spanning solar deployment, power-asset management and adjacent power-infrastructure domains. RooftopIQ is our flagship SaaS product line, built on a single platform spine that also powers GensetIQ (diesel-generator fleet monitoring), our telco monitoring products and our internal operations systems. We operate primarily across Malaysia today, with regional ambitions across Southeast Asia and beyond. Rooftop Energy itself is an early-stage startup within the group, and we are still building out our founding team, so you join early with a real hand in how we build.

About the Role

Rooftop Energy builds the software and devices that run a Malaysian power group: solar project operations, generator and telco power monitoring, and the group's own enterprise systems. We are hiring a TechOps Engineer to keep all of it running.

The seat covers two jobs. The first is DevOps: deployments, pipelines and cloud infrastructure for every product the engineering team ships. The second is IT for every company in the group: accounts, devices, network access and first-line support. One person owns both, so the tools engineers use to ship and the tools staff use to work are held to the same standard.

What You Will Do

Run deployment and infrastructure

• Own the deployment pipelines for every product, including our self-hosted GitHub Actions runners
• Run the self-serve deployment platform that lets staff outside engineering publish their own internal apps
• Manage cloud environments on Amazon Web Services (AWS) through infrastructure as code
• Keep monitoring and alerting current, and be the first responder when a deployment fails or a service goes down

Run IT for the group

• Administer Google Workspace across every company in the group
• Run the company VPN and network access for staff and devices
• Manage laptops and mobile devices, working with our leasing vendor on imaging and repairs
• Automate joiner and leaver accounts from HR, so a new starter has everything on day one and a leaver loses access the same day
• Provide first-line support to staff, and write down the fix so the next person can solve it themselves

Support ISO certification

• Keep the technical evidence for our ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 programme current: access reviews, audit logs, backups and secret management
• Work with the Chief Engineer (Technical) on security controls and on fixing what an audit finds

What We Are Looking For

Must have

• Hands-on experience running Linux systems and troubleshooting them when they break
• Experience building or operating a deployment pipeline, preferably with GitHub Actions
• Working knowledge of Docker, and scripting in Python or Bash
• Experience administering Google Workspace or a comparable identity and email platform
• Something you have set up and run yourself: a home lab, a self-hosted service, a club's IT, or infrastructure from an internship
• Clear written communication, because most of your support work will be asynchronous

Good to have

• AWS in production, especially ECS Fargate and identity and access management
• Infrastructure as code with Pulumi or Terraform
• Proxmox or other bare-metal virtualisation
• Prometheus and Grafana
• WireGuard-based networks such as Tailscale or Headscale
• Mobile device management for macOS and Android
• Exposure to ISO 27001 or a comparable certification programme

• You fix the cause. A problem solved twice is a problem you automate or document.
• You are calm when something is down, and you tell people what is happening while you fix it.
• You are patient with colleagues who are not technical, and you explain things without making them feel slow.
• You care about security as a daily habit, and you hold that line when it is inconvenient.
• You would rather build the tool once than repeat the task every week.

What This Role Asks Of You

• Rooftop Energy is early-stage and still building its founding team. This is our first dedicated TechOps seat, and the structure around it is still being set up.
• Much of what the seat covers has no written process today. You write the process, and then you work to it.
• You own whole problems: an outage, a broken onboarding, a failed audit finding. Few of them will have a precedent to point to.
• Our products are measured against the best software teams globally, and the systems underneath them are held to the same standard.
• If you want a defined help-desk role with settled boundaries, this seat is a poor fit. If building the function from the ground up is the work you want, apply.
