The Senior Embedded Systems Engineer develops the embedded hardware and firmware that enables Panduit’s advanced power-electronics prototypes and proof-of-concept systems. This hands-on role owns embedded firmware development for prototype control, sensing, communications, protection, diagnostics, and system operation, while also contributing to analog/digital circuit design and hardware bring-up. The engineer works closely with the Power Electronics team to develop, integrate, debug, and demonstrate complete working prototypes.
What You Will Do
- Develop embedded firmware in C/C++ for microcontrollers used in power-electronics prototypes and proof-of-concept systems.
- Develop and integrate low-level drivers and interfaces for ADCs, PWM/timers, GPIO, SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet or single-pair Ethernet, and other required peripherals.
- Implement prototype control sequencing, state machines, communications, telemetry, diagnostics, protection, and fault-management functions.
- Develop firmware and simple software tools needed to bring up, operate, characterize, and demonstrate power-electronics prototypes.
- Work directly with Power Electronics Engineers to integrate firmware with PFC, DC/DC, sensing, protection, load-sharing, communications, and system-control hardware.
- Design embedded and mixed-signal hardware including MCU circuitry, analog sensing, signal conditioning, isolation, communications interfaces, auxiliary supplies, and board-level protection.
- Perform tolerance, accuracy, noise, bandwidth, timing, and worst-case analyses for sensing and control circuits.
- Create schematics and work with PCB designers on grounding, partitioning, isolation, signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC, and design-for-test.
- Lead board bring-up and debug hardware-firmware interactions using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers, trace tools, DMMs, programmable supplies, and related laboratory equipment.
- Develop diagnostic firmware, test utilities, scripts, or simple PC-based tools as needed to accelerate prototype development and system troubleshooting.
- Support prototype characterization, fault injection, design reviews, test-plan development, and documentation of firmware, hardware interfaces, test results, and design rationale.
- Collaborate closely with U.S. R&D Team and local team members to resolve system-level issues and deliver reliable, demonstrable PoC systems.
What You Will Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Typically 8+ years of embedded systems development experience with substantial hands-on firmware responsibility.
- Strong hands-on embedded firmware development experience using C/C++ on microcontrollers, including peripheral drivers, real-time control, communications, diagnostics, and hardware-firmware debugging.
- Experience developing firmware around ADCs, PWM/timers, GPIO, SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet-class interfaces, or similar embedded peripherals.
- Strong practical knowledge of analog and mixed-signal circuits, including op-amps, comparators, signal conditioning, filtering, sensing, ADC/DAC interfaces, protection, and isolation.
- Experience designing MCU- or processor-based hardware and integrating firmware with custom electronic hardware.
- Experience with professional ECAD tools such as Altium Designer or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, programmable supplies, JTAG/SWD debuggers, and prototype rework/debug methods.
- Ability to independently develop, bring up, troubleshoot, and document embedded hardware and firmware for complex prototypes.
- Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of embedded systems, embedded firmware, or mixed-signal product-development experience.
- Experience developing embedded control and diagnostics for power converters, industrial equipment, energy systems, or other electrically noisy environments.
- Experience with RTOS-based systems, bootloaders, firmware update mechanisms, or embedded communications stacks.
- Experience with digital power control, PWM generation, high-speed ADC sampling, protection logic, or state-machine development for power-electronics systems.
- Experience with galvanic isolation, high-voltage sensing, precision current measurement, or safety-related diagnostic circuits.
- Experience with Ethernet, CAN, RS-485, single-pair Ethernet, or other industrial communications.
- Experience with Python or similar scripting for test automation, diagnostics, or data analysis.
- Experience with EMI/EMC troubleshooting, functional-safety concepts, or hardware/firmware fault-injection testing.
