Responsibilities

Role Overview

This senior leadership position will help shape the strategic direction, investment priorities and governance of a broad enterprise AI agenda. The role sits at the intersection of strategy, transformation, technology and business value, with responsibility for bringing structure to a complex portfolio of initiatives and helping leadership direct resources toward the most important opportunities.

You will work across functions and business areas to assess priorities, monitor progress, surface risks and dependencies, and turn complex information into clear recommendations for senior decision-makers. The position combines strategic planning with hands-on portfolio oversight and executive engagement.

A key requirement is the ability to operate effectively when information is incomplete or priorities are changing. You will need to rapidly structure ambiguous issues, identify the material considerations and communicate a clear path forward to senior stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Portfolio Direction

• Contribute to the development and ongoing refinement of the organisation's AI strategy, strategic roadmap and investment agenda.
• Establish and maintain appropriate portfolio oversight across AI-related initiatives, connecting individual programmes with broader business priorities and expected outcomes.
• Assess potential opportunities and help determine their relative priority, sequencing and readiness for execution.
• Review portfolio progress, identifying material risks, dependencies, resource constraints and areas requiring leadership intervention.
• Help strengthen the discipline used to evaluate investments and track the business outcomes associated with strategic initiatives.

Transformation Governance

• Provide central coordination and oversight across a diverse set of AI and transformation activities.
• Support demand planning, resource allocation and the management of an effective governance and decision-making cadence.
• Work with senior stakeholders across functions to reconcile competing priorities, address delivery barriers and maintain momentum.
• Prepare and support leadership meetings, governance sessions and other forums where strategic decisions are made.
• Identify improvements to governance, processes and ways of working as the organisation's AI capabilities develop.

Executive Advisory & Communication

• Convert complex technical, strategic and commercial considerations into concise recommendations suitable for senior leadership.
• Prepare decision materials covering strategic priorities, investment considerations, portfolio performance and transformation progress.
• Synthesise information from multiple initiatives and workstreams into a coherent view of key issues, implications and required actions.
• Communicate portfolio developments, strategic priorities and business outcomes clearly to senior stakeholders.
• Help establish a consistent strategic narrative around the organisation's AI transformation and its contribution to broader business objectives.

Strategic Projects

• Lead or contribute to high-priority initiatives commissioned by senior leadership.
• Assess and support strategic opportunities, including relevant external relationships and engagements.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of the operating model as the AI function matures.
• Take ownership of selected cross-functional initiatives where structured problem-solving, coordination and executive engagement are required.

Experience & Capabilities

The successful candidate is likely to bring:

• Substantial experience in strategy, transformation, portfolio management or a closely related discipline.
• A background that includes management consulting, corporate strategy or a similarly rigorous transformation environment.
• Demonstrated experience developing strategy, managing strategic portfolios, designing operating models or supporting enterprise-wide transformation.
• Strong executive communication capability, with the ability to reduce complex subjects to clear, decision-useful messages.
• A structured approach to ambiguous problems, including the ability to develop practical recommendations and move stakeholders toward action.
• Strong commercial judgement and an ability to connect strategic initiatives with tangible organisational or business value.
• The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and maintain effectiveness in a rapidly changing environment.
• A high degree of adaptability, judgement and accountability when working across multiple stakeholders and workstreams.

Relevant Background

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be relevant:

• Technology or digitally enabled transformation
• Artificial intelligence or related emerging-technology initiatives
• Enterprise strategy and transformation
• Portfolio or investment governance
• Benefits management and value realisation
• Operating model development
• Strategic planning and resource prioritisation
• Executive, transformation or enterprise-level governance

Experience advising or working closely with senior executives, enterprise leadership teams or strategic governance forums would also be valuable.

Candidates should have sufficient understanding of AI and digital transformation to discuss technology initiatives in the context of business priorities, organisational implications, investment choices and measurable value. The role does not require a purely technical profile; strategic judgement, portfolio leadership and executive communication are central to the position.

Indicators of Success

Success in the role will involve establishing a clear and credible enterprise-level view of strategic AI activity, including priorities, progress, value, dependencies and decisions requiring attention.

You will help create greater consistency in how initiatives are assessed, prioritised and governed, while improving alignment between strategic objectives, available resources and execution.

Another important outcome will be the quality of executive decision support: complex transformation activity should be distilled into concise, commercially relevant information that enables leadership to make informed decisions and take action.

Over time, the role will also contribute to strengthening the governance model, operating practices and strategic direction of the broader AI function.
