Chiller & Freezer Technician

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled, reliable, and technically competent Chiller & Freezer Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, servicing, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial and industrial refrigeration systems, including chillers, freezers, cold rooms, freezer rooms, and related equipment.

The technician will ensure that all refrigeration systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably, while complying with company policies, standard operating procedures, safety requirements, and applicable statutory regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform installation, commissioning, servicing, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial and industrial chiller and freezer systems.
• Diagnose and rectify electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration-related faults in refrigeration equipment.
• Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance according to established maintenance plans to ensure equipment reliability and minimize unplanned downtime.
• Troubleshoot and repair compressors, condensers, evaporators, thermostats, expansion valves, control systems, sensors, control panels, and other refrigeration components.
• Monitor refrigerant levels and perform refrigerant charging, recovery, leak detection, and safe refrigerant handling in accordance with applicable environmental and safety regulations.
• Conduct equipment inspections and identify potential faults or maintenance requirements before they result in equipment failure.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, urgent service requests, and emergency maintenance calls.
• Maintain accurate service reports, maintenance records, inspection checklists, repair reports, and equipment documentation.
• Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with company safety policies, SOPs, PPE requirements, CIDB requirements, and applicable statutory regulations.
• Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and contractors for spare parts, technical support, warranty matters, and equipment-related issues when required.
• Maintain proper housekeeping and ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are kept clean, safe, and organized.
• Provide technical recommendations to improve equipment reliability, performance, and energy efficiency.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and other technical projects assigned by management.
• Travel to customer sites, branches, and project locations as required to perform installation, servicing, maintenance, and repair works.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Certificate or Diploma in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, HVAC, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Valid CIDB Green Card is required.
• Valid GDL (Goods Driving Licence) is required/preferred, depending on company vehicle and job requirements.
• Minimum 2–5 years of relevant experience in commercial or industrial refrigeration, chillers, freezers, cold rooms, freezer rooms, or HVAC maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of refrigeration systems, electrical wiring, control systems, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Familiarity with commercial refrigeration brands such as Sanden, Panasonic, Kuhler, Liebherr, or equivalent brands.
• Experience with commercial cold rooms, freezer rooms, blast freezers, and industrial chillers will be an added advantage.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, refrigeration schematics, electrical wiring diagrams, and control circuits.
• Good knowledge of refrigeration safety standards and refrigerant handling procedures.
• Strong technical, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently when required.
• Willing to work standby, overtime, weekends, public holidays, or shift schedules when required.
• Willing to travel between multiple customer sites, branches, and project locations.
• Possession of a valid driving licence is required.
• Physically fit and able to perform technical and maintenance duties in demanding working environments.

Preferred Skills & Experience

The following skills, experience, and certifications will be an added advantage:

• Knowledge and practical experience with HVAC control systems and refrigeration controls.
• Experience with ammonia, Freon, or other commercial refrigerant systems.
• Experience in electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Experience with preventive maintenance planning, scheduling, and equipment lifecycle management.
• Basic computer skills for service reporting, documentation, and maintenance record management.
• Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) will be an advantage.
• Experience in energy-efficiency improvement and equipment performance optimization.
• Additional technical or safety certifications related to refrigeration, HVAC, electrical work, or site safety will be an advantage.

Working Conditions

The role may involve working in various environments, including:

• Cold rooms, freezer rooms, and other low-temperature environments.
• Confined spaces and areas with machinery noise.
• Working at heights where required.
• Indoor and outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.
• Areas requiring the use of PPE and compliance with strict workplace safety procedures.
• Manual handling and lifting of tools, equipment, spare parts, and other maintenance materials.
• Travel between multiple customer sites, branches, and project locations.
• Standby duties, overtime, shift work, and emergency call-outs when required.

• Follow safe work procedures when handling refrigerants, electrical systems, machinery, and refrigeration equipment.
• Report unsafe conditions, equipment defects, incidents, and near misses promptly.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times.
