Role Description The Senior Data Engineer is a contract, on-site role based in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This role is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and architectures to support analytics, reporting, and product needs. Day-to-day tasks include implementing and optimizing ETL processes, developing and maintaining data warehouses, and ensuring data quality and reliability across multiple sources and platforms. The Senior Data Engineer will work closely with software engineers, data analysts, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into robust data models and engineering solutions. This role also involves monitoring data workflows, troubleshooting performance issues, improving data infrastructure, and contributing to best practices and standards for data engineering across the organization.
Qualifications

• Strong data engineering skills, including experience with building and maintaining data pipelines and distributed data processing systems.
• Proficiency in data modeling and data warehousing, with the ability to design scalable schemas and storage solutions.
• Hands-on experience with Extract Transform Load (ETL) processes, including tool selection, pipeline orchestration, and performance optimization.
• Experience in data analytics, including enabling self-service analytics and collaborating with analysts to structure data for insights.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL and one or more programming languages commonly used in data engineering (such as Python, Java, or Scala).
• Experience with cloud data platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP), and modern data tools (e.g., Spark, Kafka, Airflow, or similar).
• Background in designing secure, compliant data solutions, with good understanding of data governance and data quality practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent practical experience is also valued.
• Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and mentor less experienced team members.
• Prior experience in international or multi-site environments, and familiarity with agile delivery methodologies, is beneficial.
