Company Description Sunway Chess Club is the official chess society of Sunway University, dedicated to bringing together players of all levels to learn, compete, and enjoy the game. The club provides a supportive environment for beginners, intermediate players, and advanced competitors to improve their skills. It organizes regular training sessions, friendly matches, and tournaments to foster both personal growth and community engagement. Members benefit from structured activities, coaching opportunities, and a vibrant social atmosphere centered around chess.
Role Description The Vice President is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Greater Kuala Lumpur, supporting the strategic and operational management of Sunway Chess Club. This position helps plan and oversee club activities, including training sessions, tournaments, workshops, and social events. The Vice President collaborates closely with the President and committee members to manage member engagement, communications, and partnerships with university departments and external organizations. Day-to-day responsibilities include coordinating schedules, supervising event logistics, monitoring budgets and resources, and ensuring smooth club operations. The role also involves mentoring committee members, promoting inclusive participation, and representing the club at university and community functions.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities, with experience coordinating student societies, clubs, or similar organizations.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, including event coordination, time management, and basic budgeting or resource allocation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse members, facilitate meetings, and manage internal and external relationships.
  • Sound knowledge of chess rules, formats, and competitive play, with enthusiasm for promoting chess education and participation at all levels.
  • Proactive problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a collaborative approach and commitment to an inclusive, respectful club environment.
  • Comfort with basic digital tools (e.g., email, spreadsheets, social media platforms) for administration, promotion, and member outreach.
  • Prior experience in a leadership or committee role and familiarity with university club structures are highly beneficial.
