There are types of people who likes to listen to music at work. For them, music lifts up their mood and boost their thinking still. Well, that's what they say and some people prefer to work in a quiet place where you can even hear the sound of people breathing. This makes them feel relax and easy to think of an idea. Basically, not everyone has the same preference.

Imagine if your boss does not let you listen to music at work. Not cool at all. What if you're one of those people who is driven by music, music is your blood and you depend on it to get the creative ideas flowing. Music helps you to concentrate, keep you motivated and the list goes on. Boss if you don't prefer to listen to music while working, then it's your choice but don't ruin my life by giving that so not cool rule.

You cannot listen to music at work because:

1. You're paid to give full attention to your job. Even if you're an expert multi-tasker or Master Yoda, your compensation is for 100% not 99% or less.

2. Headphones can block out all important sounds. It can keep you from hearing your phone ring, your email, chime, or drown out any other audible communication cue.

3. Imagine if the whole team was in headphones? How to communicate with each other? WhatsApp-ing?

4. You put anyone who's trying to approach your desk in the awkward position of standing there waiting patiently for you to notice them. Sometimes, they have to repeat what they say because you have headphones on.

5. You're putting yourself at risk of not hearing the emergency alarm ringing.

6. Perhaps, this is the valid reason; your IT department is scared that you're streaming music and pushing the company's bandwidth to the brink.

What you can do:

1. Follow the employer's headphone rule and live in a world where the music is created by the hum of people breathing or any nature sound

2. Grow your hair long and hide the ear bud. You can try to use black headphones as they are less noticeable than white

3. Listen in one ear, the side that your boss doesn't see

4. Use wireless ear buds like iphone ear bud.
