Sometimes at work you might feel a little left out, or left behind. Nobody told you about the meeting, or updated you about the project. But what if that’s been happening for days? Even months? Then maybe it’s not your imagination, your boss and colleagues might be hoping you’ll resign

But how do you know for sure?

1. You Don’t Get Assigned New or Important Tasks

You used to be involved with major projects, bearing many responsibilities in the team. But lately, there hasn’t been anything new for you, or you’re getting less and less work. At first, you’re happy to catch a break, but as you observe everyone around you being way busier than you are, you start feeling suspicious.

Eventually, you have nothing but small, unnecessary tasks to do.

2. You’re Getting the Silent Treatment

Your colleagues are avoiding you, your teammates don’t seem to want to chat, you haven’t heard back from your manager in ages. Is it just you, or do people quickly look away when you come near them? Conversations quiet down when you’re nearby?

The silent treatment is a real demotivator, and being excluded is painful.

3. They’ve Taken Your Work Away

You were doing just fine on your work task, making good progress. After all, it’s something you’re really good at doing. All of a sudden, your manager wants to hand it over to someone else. Your boss starts micromanaging you, wanting to know where you save your files, or how you work, asking every detail of your expense report.

Chances are, they’re preparing to replace you.

4. You’re Getting Tons of Bad Criticism

Although you were doing just fine before, with good performance reviews, out of nowhere you get bad criticism. Often unfounded or petty criticism, too. Or your manager isn’t interested in your work anymore, not giving any feedback or advising you on next steps.

This is just like silent treatment, except on your work.

5. You Keep Being Bypassed for Promotion

You’ve been working hard but getting nowhere. Maybe you were promised a promotion but it keeps getting delayed. Your boss said you’ll get an increment soon but your paycheques been the same for months. Meanwhile your junior is quickly becoming your senior.

Everyone needs money to survive, so hanging you out to dry financially really pushes the limit.

Oh No, So What Do I Do?

If you’ve experienced several or all of the signs above, it’s not worth staying, guys.

The cause may or may not be related to your performance, it could simply be reasons beyond your control. However in general, companies prefer employees to quit rather than fire or retrench them, to avoid the cost of compensation or termination fees.

So it’s high time to move on to another job, no excuses. But don’t worry, you’ll find it on Maukerja, now’s your chance for a fresh start!
