Don't Ever Sacrifice These 5 Things for Your Job. It's NOT Worth It

Don't you feel tired of working throughout the weekdays without taking a break? The weekends are the only days for you to relax, re-charge and power up your energy and mood to face another week of work.

Why work into the night when you're already working 9-5? Why respond to company emails during your free days?. You have to set boundaries, have priorities and not be a slave to your job. Your employers don't own you, so don't act like their puppet. Here are 5 things that are never worth sacrificing for the sake of your job.

1. Your Health

It's not good for your health if you work until you forget the time. Yes, your boss may have assigned you a lot of work but it's not an excuse for you to skip your lunch! Don't you feel guilty towards your own body? You sit for hours at your desk motionlessly while staring at the screen, causing stress to build up and put you at risk of falling sick.

The next thing you know, you'll turn into a zombie. Stop abusing yourself! Your boss doesn't care about your health if he/she cares only about your work results. Change unhealthy habits now! When you fall sick, the only thing you'll get is fewer sick days, and maybe a card wishing you a "speedy recovery". It's not worth it.

2. Your Family

This is one of the reasons why parents neglect their kids. It's all about work. "Mummy is really busy today, go to your dad." "Daddy cannot make it for your sports day, I need to work." What you don't realise is that in the long run, your family suffers due to your negligence.

Yes, you need to make money for living but all the money in the world cannot buy quality time with your family. How many birthday parties did you miss? When did you last communicate with your kids asking about school and homework? Take some time off for your family before you regret not doing so.

3. Your Sanity

Oh no! Your boss is demanding more, more and MORE! It's getting on your nerves and clearly challenging your sanity! But for the sake of your job, you accept it and try not to think about it. Now THAT's dangerous! Everyone has their own stress levels and you have to control it in order to keep yourself healthy.

How many times do you find life outside of work keeping you sane? Reflect and be honest with yourself; if you can't handle the workload, you certainly need to discuss this with your boss to lighten it. Do something relaxing on your days off, such as enjoying a Friday Night with friends. Use the weekends to refresh and de-stress!

4. Your Identity

Imagine this as an example: you work as an educator and it's common for you to scold the kids at school, but when you go home, you scold your own kids too. Don't bring that "teacher" identity home, as it will only bring about more stress. Leave the "teacher" at school, and just be yourself at home. You don't have to carry that identity outside of work; it helps you to de-stress and avoid a burnout.

If work stress and bad behaviours are starting to seep into your family life and social life too, be very concerned.

5. Your Contacts

You don't owe your boss the contacts you've gained over the course of your career. Perhaps you owe him results, or your best effort, but definitely not your contacts. They're a product of your hard work, so don't feel entitled to share them with your company. Those are all yours.

Remember, nobody is going to take good care of you; YOU are responsible for your own life. Never ever think of risking your health because of work. It's not worth it. It's easy for the company to find a replacement, so they're not going be upset over losing you. Be smart and love yourself! Do check out these articles for more tips regarding careers:
