The SureSawit™ SHELL Gel Kit is the result of collaborative research by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and Orion™ Genomics.  This research lead to the discovery of a single gene, the SHELL gene, responsible for the shell trait in the oil palm fruit.  The genetic information is the core of the simple, fast and accurate SureSawit™ SHELL Gel Kit, the first commercial kit developed for the oil palm industry.  Use of the kit allows oil palm seed producers and growers to precisely determine the tenera, dura and pisifera fruit form of a seed, nursery palm or field planted palm, thus improves yields and sustainability by selectively screening palms for the desired fruit form before planting.  By improving harvest efficiency, plantations may reduce their impact on the environment.
