The Execution Technology team develops high-performance technologies that support BAM’s Investment and Business divisions. The team builds systems designed and optimised for microsecond-level latency and high fault tolerance, supporting high-volume transaction flows at the core of the business.

We are looking for a Lead Engineer to help shape the next generation of execution platforms. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering problems, delivering projects from initial design through production, and developing the technical capability of fellow engineers.

The role will suit candidates who are interested in tackling complex engineering challenges and building platforms that can support materially higher transaction volumes while maintaining required latency and reliability targets.

Responsibilities

• Design and build high-performance trading algorithms and distributed-system components.
• Lead strategic engineering initiatives from initial concept and design through implementation, rollout and post-production support.
• Own multi-component technical projects end-to-end, coordinating with engineering, trading and business stakeholders to deliver agreed delivery, quality, reliability and production-readiness objectives.
• Provide technical leadership across the team, contributing to architecture, engineering standards and development practices.
• Mentor engineers through coaching, design collaboration and hands-on technical support.
• Conduct structured design and code reviews against documented quality, performance, security and maintainability standards.
• Improve efficiency, scalability, latency and stability across our systems.
• Collaborate directly with traders, portfolio managers and risk teams to connect technology solutions with business requirements.
• Identify opportunities to simplify, modernise and strengthen the execution platform in response to changes in trading, risk or operational requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 15 years of experience building trading systems in Java.
• At least 10 years of experience with multithreaded and concurrent programming, including lock-free algorithms.
• At least 10 years of experience designing and developing distributed systems.
• Demonstrated experience leading multi-component technical projects from initial design through implementation, production delivery and post-production support.
• At least 5 years of experience mentoring engineers through coaching, design collaboration, code reviews or hands-on technical support.
• Ability to explain technical designs, trade-offs and operational risks clearly in written documentation and discussions with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritise competing engineering tasks and deliver agreed milestones when technical or business requirements change.
• Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools for at least two of the following: planning, code generation, test development or code review.
• Ability to read, troubleshoot and maintain existing C# codebases.
