Location: Hybrid, Kuala Lumpur · Duration: Minimum 4 months · Type: Full-time / Part-time
About Optimal Insight
Optimal Insight is a strategic and human capital intelligence firm focused on shaping the future of business, industries and work. We turn business and people evidence into organisational and HR intelligence, connecting proprietary research, assessments, technology, learning and consulting to guide your strategy and prepare your organisation and people for what comes next.
About the Role
We're looking for a full-stack software engineering intern to join our team and work on Generate, our proprietary Organisational Intelligence platform that turns business and people data into future shaping strategies. You'll work across the entire Next.js unified stack, from the UI to server logic and data, and own real features that ship to real users.
This is a hands-on role. You'll get meaningful responsibility, close mentorship, and exposure to the full product lifecycle.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain features on the Generate platform
- Build responsive, accessible front-end interfaces with TypeScript and React
- Develop server-side logic, API routes, and integrations within the unified Next.js stack
- Work with databases to model, query, and manage application data
- Write clean, tested, maintainable code and take part in code reviews
- Debug issues, fix bugs, and help improve performance and reliability
- Collaborate with product and design to turn ideas into shipped features
- Document your work and share what you learn with the team
What We're Looking For
Required
- Malaysian student currently pursuing full-time a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Working knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and React
- Familiarity with Next.js (App Router, server components, API routes or server actions)
- Understanding of HTML, CSS, and responsive design
- Basic knowledge of databases (SQL or NoSQL) and RESTful APIs
- Comfort with Git and collaborative workflows
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn quickly
Nice to have
- Personal, academic, or open-source projects we can look at (GitHub, portfolio)
- Experience with Tailwind CSS, Prisma/Drizzle, or similar tooling
- Experience with authentication, deployment (e.g., Vercel), or CI/CD
- Familiarity with testing tools (Jest, Playwright, etc.)
- Interest in AI-assisted or generative tooling
What You'll Gain
- Real ownership of production features on a live platform
- Mentorship from experienced leaders
- Deep, practical experience with a modern full-stack Next.js codebase
- Flexible, collaborative team culture
- Monthly allowance, reference letter and possible employment conversion
How to Apply
Send your resume, a link to your GitHub or portfolio, and a short note on a project you're proud of to [email / application link] by [deadline].
Optimal Insight is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
