We are seeking Principal Software Engineers to shape the architecture and development of complex, large-scale software products, spanning greenfield initiatives and the modernisation of mission-critical platforms. You will tackle engineering challenges involving complex business workflows, multiple system integrations, high availability, performance, security and regulatory requirements. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role with cross-team technical influence, offering ownership of both implementation and longer-term technical direction without requiring formal people-management responsibilities.
Job Description
- Shape technical direction: Lead architecture and system-design decisions for major product areas, working with engineering leaders to define technical roadmaps and long-term platform evolution.
- Design and build production software: Remain hands-on in implementing critical components, developing prototypes, reviewing code and resolving technically challenging problems.
- Build and modernise platforms: Drive greenfield development, evolve existing architectures and address technical debt through practical, incremental changes that maintain service continuity.
- Solve complex system challenges: Design reliable workflows and integrations, making informed trade-offs around performance, scalability, data consistency, security, maintainability and cost.
- Own production quality: Strengthen automated testing, observability, deployment safety and resilience; help diagnose complex production issues and implement lasting improvements.
- Extend technical impact across teams: Establish reusable patterns, shared components and engineering standards that simplify development and improve delivery across product areas.
- Mentor and guide engineers: Provide technical coaching, facilitate architecture and code reviews, and help engineers develop stronger design and problem-solving capabilities.
- Partner with stakeholders: Work closely with product, design, business, security and platform teams to clarify requirements, resolve dependencies and translate ambiguous problems into deliverable solutions.
Requirements
- Proven software engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of complex production systems and senior-level technical contributions.
- A strong track record of building and evolving in-house software products, such as web or mobile applications, enterprise platforms, transactional systems or distributed services.
- Deep hands-on expertise in a relevant area of software engineering, supported by strong system-design fundamentals.
- Technology backgrounds are flexible; sound engineering judgement matters more than a particular language or framework.
- Experience making architectural decisions and solving challenges involving system integration, performance, reliability, security or data management.
- Practical experience taking software from design through implementation, testing, deployment and ongoing production ownership.
- Demonstrated technical leadership beyond individual feature delivery, such as guiding cross-team initiatives, establishing shared engineering practices or mentoring senior engineers is an advantage.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical trade-offs, influence decisions and collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
- Experience with greenfield development, legacy modernisation, regulated environments or production AI-enabled capabilities would be advantageous.
