Job Description

We are looking for a competent Maintenance Engineer to support the Sarawak Methanol ENMCS / SCADA maintenance and power usage monitoring scope. The candidate will be responsible for planned preventive maintenance, system health checks, troubleshooting, reporting, client coordination, and technical support for the plant electrical monitoring and control system.

The role requires practical experience in SCADA / HMI systems, PLC systems, industrial communication networks, electrical monitoring systems, and plant maintenance documentation.

The candidate must be comfortable working in an operating plant environment and coordinating with client representatives, OEM support teams, technicians, and system vendors.

Job Requirements

Personal Attributes:

• Willing to travel and relocate.

Required Technical Knowledge

• SCADA / HMI systems, preferably WinCC OA or similar industrial SCADA platform.

• PLC systems, preferably Siemens S7 / ET200SP or equivalent.

• Industrial Ethernet network, fibre optic network, ring topology, switches, gateways, and basic network troubleshooting.

• Electrical monitoring systems, including power meters, protection relays, switchgear interface, UPS, battery charger, EDG, VSD, MCC, and LV/HV electrical systems.

• Industrial protocols such as Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, IEC 61850, OPC UA, or similar.

• Alarm, event, trend, report, historian, and data export functions.

• Basic cybersecurity awareness, including user access control, password policy, antivirus status, patch/update observation, and system backup discipline.

• Microsoft Office for report preparation, checklist management, and client documentation.

• Basic database or web dashboard knowledge will be an advantage, especially MySQL, CSV data handling, or energy monitoring dashboards.

Minimum Qualification and Experience

• Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, Automation, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.

• Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in SCADA, PLC, electrical maintenance, automation, or plant engineering support.

• Experience in petrochemical, oil and gas, power plant, utility, process plant, or industrial facility environment is preferred.

• Experience with electrical monitoring, control systems, switchgear interface, metering, or energy monitoring will be an advantage.

• Experience in site maintenance, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical report writing is required.

• Able to travel to Sarawak and work at the project site as required.

• Able to work during planned shutdown, turnaround, or extended site support periods when required.

Preferred Skills

• Hands-on troubleshooting mindset.

• Able to read electrical drawings, network architecture, system block diagrams, I/O list, tag list, and maintenance checklist.

• Able to communicate clearly with clients, technicians, engineers, OEMs, and management.

• Able to prepare professional reports with photos, findings, recommendations, and action status.

• Good understanding of site safety, permit-to-work, plant access procedures, and maintenance discipline.

• Able to work independently with minimum supervision.

• Familiarity with MySQL, web dashboards, energy usage monitoring, data logging, or reporting systems will be an added advantage.

Job Responsibilities

ENMCS / SCADA Maintenance Support

• Support scheduled Quarterly Preventive Maintenance and Annual Turnaround Preventive Maintenance activities.

• Perform system health checks on ENMCS / SCADA servers, operator workstations, engineering workstation, HMI clients, annunciator clients, PLC panels, network equipment, gateways, and related field interface equipment.

• Review SCADA / HMI alarms, event logs, trends, communication status, and abnormal system indications.

• Verify system backup availability, project file backup status, and maintenance records.

• Carry out basic inspection of PLC CPU/module status, I/O modules, communication modules, network switches, fibre links, power supplies, UPS, and panel condition.

• Support functional checks on HMI graphics, alarm pages, trends, reports, client-server communication, and operator interface functions.

• Identify recurring faults, nuisance alarms, communication failures, and system degradation issues.

• Prepare maintenance checklists, findings summary, risk ranking, corrective recommendations, and action registers.

Troubleshooting and Instant Support

• Provide first-level engineering support for ENMCS / SCADA faults, communication issues, workstation issues, PLC status issues, and interface-related problems.

• Coordinate remote or onsite troubleshooting with local technical team, OEM support, and client representatives.

• Collect relevant evidence during troubleshooting, including screenshots, alarm logs, event logs, system status, network indication, and fault history.

• Prepare service reports after support activities.

• Escalate complex OEM-level issues to the appropriate specialist or system vendor with clear technical information.

Power Usage Monitoring Portal Support

• Support requirement clarification for the Power Usage Monitoring Online Portal.

• Coordinate the collection of meter list, feeder list, tag list, electrical parameters, reporting requirements, and data access requirements.

• Support read-only data extraction arrangement from approved sources such as ENMCS historian, SCADA database, CSV export, OPC UA, Modbus TCP, API, or meter gateway, subject to client approval.

• Assist in validating electrical parameters such as kWh, kW, kVA, kVAr, power factor, voltage, current, frequency, maximum demand, meter communication status, and alarm condition.

• Support MySQL-based data checking, trend verification, report review, and dashboard validation.

• Ensure the portal does not interfere with ENMCS operation, control logic, protection settings, or electrical system configuration.

Client and Site Coordination

• Attend site meetings, toolbox briefings, permit-to-work processes, and maintenance planning discussions.

• Coordinate daily work status with the client's electrical, maintenance, operation, and HSE teams.

• Prepare and submit daily activity updates, maintenance findings, close-out reports, and outstanding action lists.

• Maintain professional communication with client's representatives.

• Support preparation of technical clarifications, questionnaires, method statements, and maintenance planning documents.
