Senior Manager/ Director, Financial Reporting – IFRS 17 (Bermuda Entities)

Location: Malaysia (supporting Bermuda-based insurance entities)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager to lead financial reporting for Bermuda-based insurance entities under IFRS. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the quality, accuracy and timely delivery of entity-level and group financial reporting, while overseeing technical accounting matters, financial close governance and stakeholder engagement.

The role will work closely with Group Finance, Actuarial, Tax, Investment, Operations and external auditors, as well as relevant regulatory stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end IFRS financial reporting process for Bermuda entities, including quarterly and annual financial statements, disclosures and group reporting packages.
• Lead IFRS 17 financial closing and analysis, covering journals and key components such as CSM, LRC, LIC, loss components, insurance revenue, insurance service results and insurance finance income or expenses.
• Provide technical accounting guidance on IFRS 17 measurement models (GMM / PAA / VFA), contract boundaries, onerous contracts, new products and complex transactions.
• Maintain IFRS accounting policies, technical accounting papers and supporting documentation.
• Ensure financial statements comply with the full IFRS framework, particularly IFRS 9 (investments and financial instruments), IAS 12 (including deferred tax on IFRS 17 balances), IAS 1, IAS 7, IAS 8, IAS 10, IAS 21, IFRS 7 and IFRS 13.
• Prepare and review accounting papers relating to significant, complex or judgmental accounting matters.
• Support consolidation and group reporting requirements where Bermuda entities form part of a wider group structure.
• Lead year-end audits and manage external auditor relationships on IFRS 17, IFRS 9 and other technical accounting matters.
• Partner with Group Finance, Actuarial, Investment, Tax and Operations teams to ensure consistency in data flows, reporting processes and accounting treatments.
• Support Bermuda statutory and regulatory reporting requirements, including applicable Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) requirements.
• Drive process improvements, system enhancements and reporting documentation.
• Present financial results and technical accounting matters clearly to senior management and group stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Professional accounting qualification such as MIA, ACCA, CPA, CA or equivalent is mandatory.
• Minimum 8–12 years of experience in financial reporting, group reporting or Big Four audit, with substantial insurance or reinsurance industry exposure.
• Strong technical and practical experience in IFRS 17, with sound knowledge of IFRS 9 and general IFRS financial statement preparation.
• Proven ability to lead financial reporting close activities, manage external auditors and engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
• Hands-on experience in journal preparation and review, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation and disclosure reporting.
• Advanced Excel and process automation skills. Experience with Oracle and IFRS 17 or investment reporting platforms will be advantageous.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical accounting matters clearly.
• Experience preparing accounting committee or board papers to communicate complex accounting judgements and financial reporting matters.
• Experience in financial accounting for complex inward or outward reinsurance transactions.
