Tanggungjawab

Brainotech IT Solutions is a global IT services and managed infrastructure company providing end-to-end enterprise technology solutions. The company specializes in supporting distributed organizations with scalable IT operations, field engineering, and infrastructure management.

Scope of Work

The Engineer will be responsible for carrying out on-site data centre and comms room survey and audit activities, including attending site induction, measuring rooms, and documenting racks, devices, cabling, power, cooling and safety infrastructure. The Engineer will survey each rack, record the device inventory, front and rear rack elevations, and patch cable schedules (rack-to-rack and intra-rack). They will audit the power chain (MDBs, UPS, PDUs, generator-backed circuits, earthing and bonding) and cooling and airflow (CRAC/CRAH units, hot/cold aisle containment, blanking), and assess fire detection and suppression, access control and general housekeeping. They will complete the client’s audit sheets and floor plans on site and take consistently named photographs of all rooms, racks, panels and plant. Findings will be rated in a RAG-format report, with the Engineer contributing to the site risk assessment. Immediate or severe findings will be raised verbally with the client’s point of contact before leaving site. Where necessary, the Engineer may be required to revisit the site to complete outstanding items or verify unresolved findings. All activities are observation-only and must be completed in accordance with the client’s site rules, permit-to-work requirements, and health and safety standards.

Job Description

We are looking for a hands-on Data Centre / Infrastructure Engineer to support on-site survey and audit activities at client data centres and comms rooms. The role does not require network configuration or design. We are seeking engineers with a data centre, network infrastructure or field engineering background who are methodical and detail-focused and comfortable working in live technical environments.

The engineer will be responsible for physically surveying rooms and racks, recording equipment and cabling accurately, auditing power and cooling infrastructure, documenting findings with photographic evidence, and contributing to RAG-rated reporting and floor plans. They will work as part of a small team (typically 2–4 engineers) and follow the client’s induction, permit and PPE requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend client site induction and agree scope, access and documentation standards with the site point of contact.
  • Measure rooms and record rack positions, and produce floor plan sketches (general and power layouts).
  • Carry out a full device inventory for each rack, recording U-position, make, model, serial/asset number and hostname where visible.
  • Record front and rear rack elevations and note missing blanking panels.
  • Record patch cabling, including port-to-port connections, cable type, colour, approximate length and source/destination rack. Trace cables along trays without disturbing live connections.
  • Document PDUs (make, model, metering, feed source, phase, outlets used) and PSU redundancy per device, flagging single-corded devices.
  • Audit power infrastructure including MDBs, UPS (capacity, load, battery details, N/N+1 resilience), generator-backed circuits, and earthing and bonding.
  • Audit cooling and airflow, including CRAC/CRAH make, supply type, setpoints and return temperatures, device airflow direction, and containment gaps.
  • Assess fire detection and suppression, room integrity, CCTV and access control, labelling and housekeeping.
  • Capture clear, consistently named photographs of rooms, racks (front and rear), panels, cooling units and earthing points.
  • Complete client audit sheets and checklists on site and cross-check the notes of fellow engineers.
  • Identify and log findings, and draft RAG-rated entries (status, rating, comment and recommendation) with supporting evidence.
  • Contribute to the risk assessment and site method statement.
  • Verbally escalate any Immediate/Severe findings to the client before leaving site.
  • Maintain accurate timesheets and shift records and document any outstanding issues or access constraints.
  • Carry out return visits where required to close outstanding items.
  • Follow all applicable site, health and safety and customer work standards, including permit-to-work for live electrical panels, with at least two engineers present.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Data Centre Engineer, Network/IT Infrastructure Engineer, Field Engineer, or similar hands-on technical role.
  • Strong hands-on experience in data centre or comms room environments, including racks, structured cabling and patching.
  • Working knowledge of data centre power infrastructure (UPS, PDUs, MDBs) and cooling and containment principles.
  • Experience recording asset inventories and cable schedules accurately.
  • Understanding of fire detection and suppression, earthing and bonding, and general data centre safety practices.
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills, with experience completing audit sheets, checklists or similar templates.
  • Proficiency with Excel and Word. Experience with floor plan tools (Visio, CAD or similar) is advantageous.
  • Ability to work methodically as part of a small team and interact professionally with customer and site representatives.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites (including international travel) when required.
  • Comfortable working in a live environment on an observation-only basis, and working at height or in raised floor areas where permitted.
  • Full PPE (safety boots, hard hat, hi-vis, safety glasses and gloves), a laptop, and a smartphone for photography.
  • Relevant technical qualification or certification in IT, networking or data centre operations (e.g. CDCP) is preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate in English (fluent).
