Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Material Planner is responsible for translating demand into an executable material plan and ensuring material readiness to support production, New Business Model (NBM) demand, New Product Introduction (NPI), engineering changes and customer build requirements. The role provides accurate full-kit commitments, proactively manages supply and inventory risks, and works across Planning, Procurement, Engineering, Production, Warehouse, Quality and suppliers to protect business continuity. The position is also expected to identify and lead process, system and automation enhancements that improve planning visibility, control and efficiency.

Demand Planning and Build Commitments

  • Analyse MRP demand, forecasts, customer requirements and build plans to provide timely and accurate full-kit material commitments.
  • Review demand changes, forecast gaps and model-level requirements; identify risks, assumptions and required actions before confirming commitments.
  • Monitor material availability through the loading horizon and communicate potential shortages, delays or commitment changes with clear recovery actions.
  • Plan second-source and newly introduced materials in advance and coordinate closely with relevant global and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure critical materials are available, received, quality-released and ready for production loading

NBM and NPI Material Readliness

  • Independently support NBM demand scenarios and NPI projects from planning through execution, including material readiness, risk assessment, full-kit status and milestone tracking.
  • Partner with Engineering, NPI, Commodity Management, Buyers, Production Planning and suppliers to address long-lead-time, constrained, new or sole-source components.
  • Develop recovery plans for material gaps, including supply prioritization, alternative-source evaluation, risk-buy proposals and escalation of decisions required.
  • Provide concise readiness updates, highlight business risks and drive closure of actions to protect programme and launch schedules.

Inventory, Exposure and Lifecycle Management

  • Manage inventory in line with business targets by reviewing excess, ageing, blocked, slow-moving and shelf-life-sensitive materials.
  • Drive timely PO pull-in, push-out or cancellation actions with Buyers following significant demand changes, EOL events or forecast reductions.
  • Coordinate reclassification, inter-site balancing, supplier returns, deviations, rework or other disposition options to reduce excess and scrap exposure.
  • Review and recommend safety stock, risk-buy and Last Time Buy requirements using demand, lead time, supply risk and liability considerations.
  • Ensure clear disposition of old material while securing timely availability of replacement material during product or revision transitions.

Engineering Change and Product Transition

  • Assess the material impact of ECN/ECO, PCN, second-source qualification, phase-in/phase-out and EOL changes.
  • Complete planning reviews and approvals within agreed timelines and ensure actions are assigned, tracked and closed by the relevant functions.
  • Validate that the latest approved material revision is available and prevent obsolete or unapproved material from being planned or consumed.
  • Maintain clear transition plans covering old-material disposition, new-material readiness, inventory exposure and implementation timing.

System, Master Data and Planning Accuracy

  • Maintain and validate planning data accuracy, including demand, inventory, formulas, BOM structure, alternates, procurement settings, QPA and material-master parameters.
  • Investigate planning exceptions or data issues that prevent correct BOM explosion, supply visibility or material commitment.
  • Validate inventory accuracy across warehouse and work-in-process locations, and drive reconciliation for critical discrepancies.
  • Ensure material commitments and ETA information provided to NPI and Production Planning are current, accurate and supported by the latest supply position.

Supply Risk and Cross- Functional Coordination

  • Lead regular material reviews and communicate shortages, constraints, dependencies, escalation needs and recovery plans to stakeholders.
  • Work with Buyers and suppliers to secure supply, resolve delivery gaps and support open-market or premium-purchase evaluation where appropriately approved.
  • Coordinate actions across Planning, Procurement, Engineering, Production, Warehouse and Quality, maintaining clear owners and due dates.
  • Provide structured updates in operational and project meetings and follow through action registers to closure.

Continuous Improvement and Digitalization

  • Proactively identify planning-process gaps and propose practical enhancements to improve speed, accuracy, visibility and governance.
  • Lead or contribute to improvement and automation projects involving MRP exception management, demand-versus-supply comparison, full-kit visibility, inventory risk monitoring and reporting.
  • Define business requirements, support user acceptance testing and validate that system enhancements deliver the intended operational controls and benefits.
  • Standardize effective planning methods, dashboards and control mechanisms for wider adoption across programmes or teams.
  • Lead at least one to two meaningful enhancement projects annually, with measurable benefits such as reduced manual effort, improved response time, stronger risk prevention or lower inventory exposure

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in supply chain, Operations, Business, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in material planning, production planning, supply planning, procurement or inventory management; experience supporting NPI or complex manufacturing operations is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage material readiness, supply constraints, inventory exposure and cross-functional action plans.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, stakeholder-management and functional-leadership capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to analyse planning data and present clear management updates.

Prefered

  • Working knowledge of SAP, Oracle or other ERP/MRP planning systems.
  • Experience with NBM demand, NPI material readiness, ECN/ECO transitions and component lifecycle management.
  • Experience developing dashboards, automated reports, macros or other digital planning solutions.
  • Professional certification in supply chain, planning, procurement or inventory management
