About the Role

At New Life Stories (NLS), we believe that the relationship is the client. Every connection we build becomes a bridge toward healing, resilience, and belonging. We journey with families impacted by incarceration — holding space for their stories, restoring trust, and nurturing hope.

Our practice rests on the belief that healing happens through relationships — within families, communities, and systems. Guided by a systemic understanding of family life, insight into how hard experiences shape beliefs and choices, and restorative values of voice, choice, and accountability, we support families to rediscover identity, rebuild trust, and create new life stories of strength and connection.

Key Responsibilities

Provide case management and relationship-focused support, using empathy and connection as tools for change.

Conduct family assessments, home visits, and multi-agency care planning (SPS, MSF, FSCs, SSAs, schools, etc).

Facilitate restorative and resilience-based groupwork that rebuilds family bonds and belonging.

Advocate for child and family wellbeing through collaboration across systems.

Engage in reflective supervision and programme evaluation that deepen learning and practice.

Be flexible to work occasional weekends and after office hours to support families and agency events.

You’ll Thrive If You…

Hold a Degree in Social Work (eligible for registration with the Social Work Accreditation Board, Singapore).

Bring 2–4 years’ experience in multicultural family work with a passion in resilience and relational building. Experience in family systems, justice related and child advocacy an added advantage.

Practise with cultural sensitivity, a systemic, trauma-aware, and restorative lens that values voice, choice, and accountability.

Embody love, compassion, and relational depth as the foundation of your practice.

Are flexible and adaptable, and able to work occasional weekends and after office hours to support families and agency events.

Why Join Us

At NLS, we know that change happens in relationship. You’ll join a team that believes love and compassion — not judgment — open the door to healing and transformation. Together, we support families to build on their strengths, form healthy and supportive relationships, and create new, joyful experiences that give rise to new life stories of courage, connection, and belonging.

New Life Stories was established in 2014 to prevent intergenerational incarceration. New Life Stories is an IPC (Institution of Public Character) non-profit organisation that aims to provide children of incarcerated parents with essential reading and pro-social skills to ensure that they are not left behind in their crucial early years of development.

New Life Stories has put in place a holistic strategy targeted at providing support to children of the incarcerated and their families. The programmes aim to provide these children with educational and emotional stability so that they can have a fairer start in school. Their parents are also supported by our customised in-prison programmes to prepare them for their release and to give them the reassurance to successfully reintegrate back into society. New Life Stories also educates and guides the families by providing them with essential tools to be self-sufficient.

Befriending

The programme was put in place to provide reading and learning opportunities to children of incarcerated parents so that they can have a fairer start in life. Learning Friends visit the children at their homes weekly to conduct pro-social and reading sessions through storytelling and befriending. Our Learning Friends are a team of trained volunteers, carefully screened for their empathy and mentorship ability to guide the children during their formative years.

In-care

Trained counsellors visit Changi Prison every week to conduct the In-Care programme where they provide customised self-awareness and resilient building in-prison workshops for the parents. The programmes are designed to restore and strengthen the relationship between parent and child as well as to provide internal and external support to prepare them for times of crisis.

Family Care

New Life Stories will intervene where necessary to provide tailored individual counselling and/or family therapy to help build connectedness within the family. Through activities and games, the sessions help facilitate family strengthening and allows the counsellors to observe behaviours, identify and affirm strengths, model, and encourage new ways of communication within the family. Our case management team aims to strengthen the families own capacities to deal with problems and to cope more effectively in their environment, through a client-centric, goal-oriented, problem-solving approach. Our case workers work towards engaging and assessing the needs of the families and aim to increase their resiliency and improve their quality of life in the long run.
