Fortune is seeking an Editorial Fellow to support its Asia desk for a three-month fellowship. This early-career opportunity is designed for fresh graduates and emerging journalists who want hands-on experience reporting and writing fast, smart business news for a global audience.

The fellow will work closely with Fortune’s Asia editorial team to track breaking developments across the region’s business, economic, corporate, technology, and markets landscape. The role is ideal for a curious, news-driven writer who can identify stories quickly, synthesize information accurately, and turn around concise digital articles under deadline.

What you’ll do

  • Monitor breaking news, market-moving developments, corporate announcements, economic data, policy changes, and online business conversations across Asia-Pacific.
  • Pitch timely story ideas and contribute to daily coverage planning.
  • Write approximately two short news stories per day, generally in the 400–500-word range.
  • Cover breaking and trending business topics, including companies, startups, technology, artificial intelligence, finance, trade, consumer trends, tourism, and regional economic developments.
  • Conduct rapid but rigorous reporting using reliable public sources, company statements, regulatory filings, earnings releases, data releases, and interviews where appropriate.
  • Verify facts, figures, names, titles, dates, and source material before publication.
  • Write clear, engaging headlines, deks, and concise copy suited to a digital business-news audience.
  • Work with editors on revisions, story structure, context, accuracy, style, and search-friendly presentation.
  • Help package and promote Fortune’s broader Asia coverage for social media, drafting clear, compelling posts that surface key news, insights, and reporting for platform-specific audiences.
  • Develop a strong understanding of how global business news is reported, edited, and published for an international readership.

Fellowship details

  • Duration: Three months
  • Location: Hong Kong or Singapore
  • Workload: Full-time or equivalent editorial commitment
  • Output expectation: Approximately two short news hits per day, typically 400–500 words each, subject to the news cycle and editorial priorities
  • Reporting line: Asia desk editor(s)

What we’re looking for

  • A recent graduate or very early-career journalist, writer, researcher, or communications professional with a strong interest in business news.
  • Excellent English-language writing and editing skills, with the ability to explain complex corporate, economic, or financial developments clearly and quickly.
  • Demonstrated curiosity about Asia-Pacific business, economics, technology, markets, and companies, with a particular focus on Southeast Asia.
  • Strong news judgment and the ability to distinguish a meaningful development from routine corporate noise.
  • Comfort working in a deadline-driven environment and managing multiple short assignments in a day.
  • Careful fact-checking habits and a commitment to accuracy, fairness, and source transparency.
  • Familiarity with digital research tools, newswires, company websites, social platforms, data releases, and search-based reporting.
  • An understanding of basic business and economic concepts is helpful, but applicants do not need extensive professional newsroom experience.
  • Knowledge of an Asian language or a particular Asia-Pacific market is an advantage, though not required.

What you’ll gain

This fellowship offers an opportunity to work inside a globally recognized business publication and build practical experience in international news coverage. Fellows will receive editorial guidance, develop sharper reporting and writing skills, and learn how a fast-moving digital newsroom covers major companies, markets, and economies across Asia.

Successful fellows will have the opportunity to:

  • Earn bylines in an international business publication.
  • Build a portfolio of published work on Asia business and economic news.
  • Receive feedback from experienced editors.
  • Strengthen skills in breaking-news reporting, business writing, source verification, headline writing, and digital publishing.
  • Gain exposure to the standards, pace, and collaborative workflow of a global newsroom.
