We are seeking an experienced and technically strong Head of Engineering to join our team in Botswana.
About the Role
The Head of Engineering will provide senior technical leadership across the Project, working closely with the Project Manager, Construction Manager, Client, consultants, contractors, suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating engineering activities, ensuring technical quality and compliance, supporting project delivery, and providing leadership across electrical and instrumentation (E&I) engineering activities.
This is a key leadership position requiring strong technical expertise, project management capability, commercial awareness and the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Project Manager with the overall management, coordination and delivery of the Project and acting on behalf of the Construction Manager when delegated.
- Representing the Client at technical meetings with external stakeholders while maintaining high standards of professionalism and technical competence.
- Providing technical input during client engagement and communicating technical solutions and their business value.
- Providing technical leadership across engineering, solution architecture, implementation and project delivery.
- Leading and reviewing Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) engineering activities, including power distribution, control systems and field instrumentation.
- Managing and coordinating engineering deliverables across multidisciplinary teams.
- Coordinating design reviews, technical submissions, approvals, inspections, testing and commissioning.
- Providing technical support during installation, commissioning and troubleshooting of E&I systems.
- Reviewing equipment selections and specifications, including switchboards, transformers, distribution boards and switchgear.
- Preparing, reviewing and maintaining technical documentation, engineering records, technical guides and training materials.
- Leading, mentoring and developing engineering personnel.
- Coordinating engineering interfaces with procurement, construction, testing and commissioning teams.
- Managing technical interfaces with vendors, contractors, consultants and other project stakeholders.
- Monitoring subcontractor and supplier performance, project progress, contractual deliverables, variations and compliance with project requirements.
- Monitoring project performance against quality, scope and technical requirements.
- Supporting risk assessments, hazard studies, inspections, audits and compliance activities.
- Identifying and reporting project risks, technical issues and performance concerns, and supporting mitigation and corrective actions.
- Supporting contract and commercial administration, including payment applications, variations, claims and estimating, within the appropriate delegated authority.
- Considering commercial and technical factors when developing solutions, including cash flow, execution models, project risk, constructability and infrastructure compatibility.
- Identifying client and project requirements and recommending technical or operational improvements.
- Establishing and monitoring appropriate engineering and project performance KPIs.
- Maintaining effective communication with the Client, project owner, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and project personnel.
- Ensuring appropriate HSE, quality and environmental requirements are maintained throughout project delivery.
- Completing an orderly handover of project responsibilities, records and documentation at the conclusion of the assignment.
- Performing other duties reasonably consistent with the position, qualifications and professional competence.

What We’re Looking For

- 8+ years of experience in engineering, with at least 3+ years managing other managers (EMs) or leading large departments
- Intermediate to Advanced level of English, both written and spoken
- Strong operational mindset to build processes that help teams move faster, not slower
