About the role Our client, a global financial institution, is looking for an experienced compliance leader to head a team in Kuala Lumpur. You'll lead second-line compliance assurance work that supports operations in several markets, and your team will be measured against regulatory expectations well beyond Malaysia. You'll work closely with colleagues across regions, so this is a role for someone who is comfortable operating in a global environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of compliance professionals
• Oversee compliance assurance activities, including reviews, monitoring and testing, against requirements from multiple jurisdictions
• Interpret global and cross-border regulatory expectations and apply them consistently across the team's work
• Advise senior stakeholders in different regions on regulatory and control matters
• Manage team resources and budget, and support recruitment and development
• Contribute to a positive culture within the team and the wider organisation

About you

• Strong, senior-level experience in compliance within financial services, ideally capital markets or wealth management
• Exposure to international regulatory regimes, gained through a global or regional institution, shared-services centre or cross-border role. 
• Hands-on knowledge of compliance monitoring and testing
• Good understanding of banking and securities regulation
• Proven people leadership, ideally in a regional or shared-services setting
• Comfortable working with stakeholders across time zones
• Advanced degree or recognised compliance qualification preferred
• Based in Malaysia, or able to relocate there
