  • The role-holder will be a senior member of the Functions Compliance and conduct team, providing independent assurance over the design and operating effectiveness of risk management, governance and internal controls across Compliance and Conduct globally.
  • The Senior Audit Manager will lead complex, cross-border audits; shape risk assessment and audit planning; provide subject matter expertise; and engage senior stakeholders to drive clear, sustainable outcomes.
  • We aim to be auditors of the future: forward-looking, agile and focused on smarter auditing through data analytics, technology and responsible use of AI. The role challenges established thinking and contributes to the future of banking and internal audit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver high-quality Compliance audits, acting as Team Lead or senior subject matter expert as required, while minimising unnecessary disruption to the business.
  • Take end-to-end accountability for assigned audits, including scoping, planning, resourcing, fieldwork, issue development, stakeholder engagement, reporting and post-audit follow-up, in line with GIA methodology, budget and timelines.
  • Set clear direction for audit teams, review and challenge audit work, and ensure conclusions are supported by sufficient evidence and focused on the areas of greatest risk.
  • Identify control gaps and emerging risks, articulate their impact and root causes clearly, agree issues with senior management, and secure measurable and sustainable management action plans.
  • Provide subject matter expertise across Compliance risk, including relevant regulatory obligations, frameworks, governance, risk assessment, monitoring, surveillance, advisory and control room processes.
  • Oversee validation of audit issues and assess whether management actions address the underlying risk and are supported by appropriate evidence before closure.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of GIA through data-led auditing, reusable analytics, smarter testing approaches and practical use of technology and AI.

Strategy

  • Ensure audits within the assigned portfolio address the key risks identified through continuous risk assessment and audit planning and meet relevant regulatory requirements and expectations.
  • Contribute to the Compliance audit strategy, annual plan and portfolio prioritisation by bringing together internal risk insights, regulatory developments, business change and external trends.
  • Maintain the independence and objectivity of the audit team and ensure engagements are delivered in accordance with the Audit Charter.

Business

  • Develop a strong understanding of the Group’s businesses, products, geographies and Compliance risk profile to provide relevant and commercially informed audit challenge.
  • Manage assigned audit budgets, resources and milestones, escalating constraints early and taking action to protect quality and delivery.
  • Build constructive relationships with senior stakeholders while maintaining independent challenge and clear accountability for control improvement.

Processes

  • Lead assigned audit work across the Group and coordinate effectively with country, business, product, technology and specialist audit teams.
  • Define audit scope and testing strategies that are risk-based, proportionate and responsive to regulatory expectations and material business change.
  • Provide clear guidance, detailed review and effective supervision so that audit deliverables meet required quality standards and timelines.
  • Apply strong business, technical and audit judgement to challenge evidence, assess control effectiveness and reach balanced conclusions.
  • Promote consistent adherence to GIA methodology and systems and support improvements where existing approaches can be made clearer, more efficient or more insightful.
  • Monitor delivery of agreed audit actions, advise action owners on closure expectations without assuming management responsibility, and escalate unresolved or overdue matters.
  • Use data analytics and other technology-enabled techniques to improve risk identification, testing coverage and the quality of audit insight.

People & Talent

  • Lead, coach and develop audit team members through clear objective-setting, timely feedback, on-the-job support and knowledge sharing.
  • Create an inclusive environment that encourages constructive challenge, collaboration and continuous learning across geographies and disciplines.
  • Provide fair and evidence-based feedback at the end of assignments and support development planning for team members.
  • Maintain relevant technical and leadership capabilities through ongoing professional development and completion of required training.
  • Contribute to capability building within GIA by sharing Compliance knowledge, audit techniques, analytics and lessons learned.

Risk Management

  • Own or support continuous risk assessment for the assigned portfolio, identifying changes in risk profile promptly and proposing changes to audit coverage where appropriate.
  • Promote early identification and escalation of significant risks, control concerns, trends and developments, including matters arising outside the normal audit process.
  • Adopt an anticipatory approach through senior stakeholder engagement, review of management information, regulatory developments and monitoring of the external environment.
  • Assess how strategic change, new products, technology, data, third-party arrangements and regulatory developments may affect the Compliance control environment.

Governance

  • Manage relationships with relevant portfolio stakeholders and maintain sufficient engagement to understand changes affecting the risk and control environment.
  • Use professional networks and cross-functional relationships to improve coordination, share insights and support effective audit outcomes.
  • Escalate delays, quality concerns and unresolved matters promptly to auditee management and GIA management.
  • Communicate complex issues, risks and root causes clearly to senior and non-specialist audiences, using concise and evidence-based messaging.
  • Provide clear and timely reporting on audit progress, themes, emerging risks and portfolio-level insights to relevant GIA governance forums.

Regulatory & Business Conduct

  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding high standards of ethics, regulatory compliance and business conduct across Standard Chartered Bank, including compliance in letter and spirit with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
  • Identify, escalate, mitigate and support the resolution of risk, conduct and compliance matters effectively and collaboratively.

Key Stakeholders

  • Senior Compliance and Conduct stakeholders across Group, business, function and country teams.
  • GIA stakeholders, including Heads of Audit, Audit Directors, Senior Audit Managers, Team Leaders, audit team members and specialist teams.
