The Director of Sales & Marketing (DOSM) is responsible for leading the hotel’s overall sales and marketing strategy to maximise revenue, market share and brand positioning. The role provides strategic leadership to the Sales & Marketing team while working closely with the General Manager, Revenue Management and hotel leadership team to achieve the hotel’s commercial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the hotel’s annual Sales & Marketing strategy, business plan and budget.
- Lead sales strategies across key segments including Corporate, MICE, Groups, Leisure and Events.
- Drive revenue growth, market share and profitability in line with hotel targets.
- Identify new business opportunities and develop strategies to penetrate key and emerging markets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key corporate accounts, business partners, government agencies, travel partners and other stakeholders.
- Lead contract negotiations, key account management and major business opportunities.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, business performance and customer insights to support commercial decisions.
- Work closely with Revenue Management to optimise pricing, segmentation, demand generation and revenue opportunities.
- Oversee the hotel’s marketing, digital, communications, advertising and promotional activities to strengthen brand awareness and market positioning.
- Ensure marketing activities are aligned with Crowne Plaza and IHG brand standards.
- Lead, coach and develop the Sales & Marketing team, establishing clear objectives and performance expectations.
- Establish sales targets and regularly review individual and team performance.
- Represent the hotel at key client engagements, trade shows, networking events and industry functions.
- Develop and manage the Sales & Marketing budget while ensuring effective utilisation of resources.
- Prepare sales forecasts, commercial reports and market analysis for management review.
- Collaborate with Operations, F&B, Events, Reservations and other departments to maximise total hotel revenue.
- Support the General Manager in developing and implementing the hotel's overall commercial and business strategy.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or Diploma in Sales & Marketing, Hospitality Management, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Strong experience in hotel Sales & Marketing, with previous experience in a senior sales/commercial leadership position.
- Experience within an international hotel brand or upscale/full-service hotel environment is preferred.
- Proven track record in achieving revenue targets, developing new business and managing key accounts.
- Strong understanding of the Penang and Northern Region market, particularly Corporate and MICE segments, would be an advantage.
- Strong commercial acumen with good analytical and strategic planning capabilities.
- Excellent leadership, communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
- Ability to develop strong relationships with clients, owners, business partners and internal stakeholders.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant hotel sales/CRM systems.
