Role Description

The Head of AI / Director of AI / Chief AI Officer leads the development and adoption of artificial intelligence capabilities to support organisational priorities. Responsibilities include defining AI strategy, prioritising use cases, overseeing delivery, building specialist teams, and evaluating the business impact of AI investments.

Head of AI positions lead the AI function, establish technical standards, and guide solutions from experimentation into production. Director of AI positions oversee multiple programmes, coordinate resources, and align delivery with product and business objectives. Chief AI Officer positions set enterprise-wide AI direction, advise executive leadership and the board, and establish governance and investment priorities. All positions collaborate with technology, data, security, and business teams to deliver reliable AI capabilities and manage associated risks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree is an advantage.
• Substantial experience in AI, machine learning, data science, or technology leadership.
• Demonstrated success delivering AI solutions with measurable business outcomes.
• Strong understanding of machine learning, generative AI, model evaluation, and production deployment.
• Experience developing AI roadmaps, prioritising opportunities, and assessing investment requirements.
• Proven ability to recruit, lead, and develop multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Understanding of data governance, model monitoring, security, privacy, and responsible AI practices.
• Experience managing budgets, external partners, and build-versus-buy decisions.
• Strong executive communication skills and the ability to explain technical opportunities, limitations, and trade-offs clearly.
• For chief officer positions, demonstrated experience shaping enterprise strategy, establishing AI governance, and advising executives or boards on organisational transformation.
