About us

Remote Interview, Inc. is a profitable software business with ten years of experience building and selling products to businesses. Our technical hiring tools, ************* and *************, serve more than 3,000 businesses, including Adobe, Samsung, Toyota and SAP. Our early backers include Draper Associates, Alchemist Accelerator and the CTO of Salesforce.

We’re now exploring new products and businesses, including opportunities beyond technical recruiting. We haven’t decided which one to pursue. We have an established business and engineering team to build from, but plenty of questions to answer about customers, markets and where we can create something worth paying for.

You’ll work directly with the CEO in Kuala Lumpur to help answer those questions by researching opportunities, talking to potential customers and testing ideas. As we choose a direction, you’ll help turn it into a product and get it to its first customers.

The role

You’ll own customer outreach, making sense of the research, testing demand and writing product specs. We’ll expect you to recommend what we should do, question assumptions and keep things moving. The CEO makes the final call on product direction and investment.

Your priorities will change as we go: first understanding the opportunity, then testing it, then working out what to build and helping get it shipped.

You’ll use Claude and similar AI tools every day to help with research, writing and making sense of what you’ve learned. You’ll check their output and take responsibility for the final work.

1. Learn

  • Reach out to customers and prospects, arrange calls and prepare the questions. You'll lead interviews with the CEO at first, then on your own as you get to know the customers and the business.
  • Write up what you've learned: what people struggle with, what they use today, who pays and what would persuade them to try something new.
  • Look into competing products, their pricing and the size of the market when we need that information to make a decision. Pull out what matters and explain what it means for us.
  • Tell us what you think we should do and why. If the research points away from an idea the CEO likes, say so.

2. Validate

  • Try out ideas with landing pages, emails, waitlists or paid pilots. Before each test, agree who it's for, what we want to learn and what result would make it worth taking further.
  • Find out whether interested customers are ready to take the next step, such as trying a pilot or committing to pay, and what's stopping them.
  • Follow up with customers, answer their questions and make sure we do what we said we'd do.

3. Specify and deliver

  • Write clear specs for the engineers: what we're building, how it should work for the user and how we'll check that it works.
  • Work with the CEO and engineers on quick prototypes so we can try ideas before spending weeks building them.
  • Stay close to the work as it's being built. Help clear up questions and raise delays or changes in scope early.

Throughout

  • Run a daily check-in and the weekly planning meeting with the CEO. Agree on the day’s priorities, make sure everyone knows what they’re responsible for and by when, and follow up when something gets stuck.
  • Keep a short, up-to-date record of what we've decided to build, why we chose it and what's still undecided.

Why join us

  • You’ll work directly with a technical founder who’s built and run a profitable company for ten years.
  • You’ll help shape a new product from the first customer conversation, with an existing profitable business behind it.
  • You’ll take on more responsibility as you show what you can do.
  • You’ll work in a small team where you can see the difference your work makes each week.

What we’re looking for

  • You’ve spent 2 to 4 years in startup operations, consulting, product or business analysis, or as an associate product manager.
  • You write clearly in English. You’ll be writing to US and UK customers every day.
  • You’re comfortable talking to customers and asking questions that might be difficult to answer.
  • You question assumptions and can explain what you’ve found that makes you doubt them.
  • You understand technical concepts well enough to write a spec an engineer can work from. You don’t need to code.
  • You can take a vague question and turn it into a clear one-page brief in a day.
  • You want to take responsibility for whether the work succeeds, and you follow it through.

What this isn’t

You won’t be booking travel, running personal errands or doing bookkeeping. You also won’t be responsible for paid ads or email infrastructure; we outsource that work.

Hours and commitment

  • You’ll work full-time, on-site in Kuala Lumpur, roughly 10am to 7pm to overlap with US mornings.
  • You can’t take on other paid work, freelance or run another business alongside this role. Hobby projects are fine.

Compensation

  • Salary depending on experience, plus performance bonus
  • Health coverage

Interview process

  1. We’ll review your CV and questionnaire responses.
  2. We’ll have an introductory call.
  3. Written exercise: we’ll give you a vague question, and you’ll send us a one-page brief within a day.
  4. Customer interview roleplay with the CEO (45 minutes): you’ll prepare for and lead a discovery conversation.
  5. We’ll talk through something you’ve shipped or run, the decisions you made, the trade-offs and what you’d do differently.
