Help students connect scientific ideas with evidence and everyday experience
At Ancourage Academy, we are looking for educators who can make scientific concepts clear, encourage thoughtful questions and help students apply what they know.
You will teach small classes of up to six students and contribute to resources that develop understanding, scientific reasoning and confidence. Your work will combine classroom teaching with curriculum development and opportunities to explore advanced AI, digital explanations and practical research skills.
We welcome specialists in individual sciences and teachers with broader subject coverage. Your teaching assignment will reflect the disciplines, levels and curricula you can teach confidently.
Teaching scope
We welcome expertise in one or more of the following:
Primary Science.
Lower Secondary Science.
Secondary Physics, Chemistry or Biology.
Relevant combined Science courses.
JC Physics, Chemistry or Biology.
Science subjects within relevant IP or IB courses.
Applicants are welcome to specialise in one discipline or age group. Expertise in Physics, Chemistry and Biology will be assessed separately, with assignments matched to demonstrated capability.
What you will do
Plan and conduct regular, trial and replacement lessons within your agreed teaching scope.
Explain scientific concepts through clear examples, diagrams, observations and appropriate demonstrations.
Help students connect knowledge with evidence, unfamiliar situations and everyday applications.
Teach students to interpret data, identify variables, evaluate explanations and communicate scientific reasoning.
Identify misconceptions and respond with targeted explanations and practice.
Develop and improve worksheets, application questions, diagrams, assessments and answer guides.
Check scientific accuracy, terminology, visual representations and the logic of explanations.
Help students understand how to construct clear, relevant answers using appropriate scientific language.
Track progress and provide actionable feedback to students and parents.
Share teaching approaches and resource improvements with colleagues.
Contribute to agreed curriculum, workshop or digital learning projects.
Learn to use advanced AI with scientific judgement
You will receive company-funded access to selected advanced AI tools, including frontier models approved for the academy’s work, alongside practical guidance on their use.
Possible applications include:
Exploring different explanations for difficult concepts.
Drafting question ideas and adapting practice to different levels.
Preparing presentations, visual explanations and lesson structures.
Organising research for a topic or workshop.
Developing initial ideas for interactive learning resources.
Summarising patterns in student responses to guide follow-up teaching.
You will learn to evaluate the reliability of outputs, verify facts and check whether diagrams, terminology and explanations are scientifically sound. Teacher review remains essential before materials are used with students.
Training will also cover syllabus relevance, age suitability and appropriate handling of student information. Prior AI or coding experience is helpful but is not required.
Develop research, communication and project skills
Your development can extend into broader skills that support education, content work and analytical projects.
Depending on your interests, an agreed development focus may include:
Researching a question and evaluating the quality of evidence.
Communicating technical information clearly to a general audience.
Designing visual explanations, presentations or short educational content.
Using spreadsheets to organise and interpret assessment information.
Planning and coordinating a defined resource-development project.
Testing a learning activity, gathering feedback and improving the result.
Introducing colleagues to a useful tool or teaching approach.
For example, you could develop an interactive explanation of a scientific concept, build a set of data-interpretation activities or design a workshop that helps students improve their scientific reasoning.
Projects will be selected according to your strengths, readiness and the academy’s needs. Assigned training and project work will form part of your working hours.
Long-term career development
You will receive onboarding to teaching practices, curriculum standards and working tools, with opportunities for feedback and collaboration.
Possible development directions include:
Senior Science Teacher:
deepen your expertise and help colleagues address challenging concepts or misconceptions.
Science Subject Lead:
contribute to teaching standards and resource quality within your discipline.
Curriculum or Assessment Lead:
take greater responsibility for learning sequences, questions and assessment materials.
Programme or Digital Learning Project Lead:
coordinate a workshop, resource series or agreed technology-supported initiative.
Team or Centre Leadership:
develop responsibilities in people support, planning and programme delivery where suitable opportunities arise.
Progression will depend on teaching quality, subject knowledge, contribution and available responsibilities. A strong specialist can build a career through deep expertise in a particular science.
What we are looking for

The ability to explain abstract ideas clearly and connect them with examples.
An interest in helping students reason from evidence.
Careful attention to scientific accuracy, terminology and question quality.
Familiarity with the relevant syllabus and assessment requirements.
A willingness to develop resources and improve them through classroom feedback.
Reliable preparation and professional communication.
Openness to learning new tools and sharing useful approaches with colleagues.
Relevant teaching experience is welcome. Strong newer educators and career changers with appropriate subject knowledge and communication skills are also encouraged to apply.
Preference will be given to candidates who can confidently teach Science across multiple year levels and/or more than one Science discipline, such as Physics, Chemistry or Biology. The ability to teach additional relevant subjects, such as Mathematics, is also advantageous. Strong specialists are welcome, and expertise in each assigned subject will be assessed separately.
