Chemical Engineer - Graphene Production & Process Development
About the Role:
Nine G Solutions (9GS) is looking for a Chemical Engineer to join our team in developing and scaling graphene production technologies.
This is a hands-on engineering role involving graphene synthesis, process optimisation, material characterisation, equipment operation, and production scale-up. You will work closely with our technical team to improve process efficiency, product consistency, quality, and scalability as we move from development towards commercial production.
We are looking for someone who is technically strong, curious, practical, and comfortable working in a fast-moving technology environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Graphene Production & Process Optimisation
- Support day-to-day graphene production and process development activities.
- Analyse and optimise process parameters to improve yield, quality, consistency, efficiency, and scalability.
- Assist in designing and improving production workflows as processes move from laboratory/pilot scale towards commercial production.
- Identify process bottlenecks and propose practical engineering solutions.
- Support process control, monitoring, and continuous improvement activities.
Material Characterisation & Quality
- Conduct or coordinate material characterisation, including techniques such as Raman spectroscopy and XRD.
- Analyse characterisation and production data to understand relationships between process conditions and graphene quality.
- Support troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and quality improvement activities.
- Maintain accurate experimental and production records.
Equipment & Production Support
- Support the operation, troubleshooting, and upkeep of graphene production equipment.
- Assist with equipment improvement, maintenance planning, and process reliability.
- Work closely with the technical team to ensure safe and consistent production operations.
Technical Documentation
- Prepare and maintain SOPs, technical reports, process records, and production documentation.
- Present technical findings, process improvements, and recommendations to management.
- Support documentation required for technology scale-up and commercialisation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related engineering field. Master's degree is an advantage.
- Minimum CGPA 3.00.
- Strong understanding of chemical engineering fundamentals, process design, mass and energy balances, and material properties.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working with experimental and production data.
- Experience with process simulation/modelling tools such as COMSOL, ANSYS, Aspen, or equivalent is an advantage.
- Experience with Raman spectroscopy, XRD, or other material characterisation techniques is an advantage.
- Graphene, carbon materials, nanomaterials, or advanced-materials experience is an advantage.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Able to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Open for Malaysian citizens only.
Who We Are Looking For:
This role is particularly suited to someone who thrives in a startup environment — someone who is adaptable, takes initiative, is willing to work beyond a narrowly defined job scope when needed, and enjoys building processes and technologies from the ground up.
At 9GS, you will have the opportunity to work directly on the development and scale-up of graphene technology and contribute to its transition towards commercial applications.
