Role Overview
The Engineer, Manufacturing Applications and Smart Factory develops, maintains, and supports digital manufacturing solutions, with primary responsibility for the Tulip MES platform and its applications at HSOT. The role translates manufacturing needs into secure, reliable, usable, and compliant applications and provides operational support throughout the application lifecycle.
Working closely with Manufacturing, Operations Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, IT, and technology partners, the engineer will also help expand HSO’s smart-factory capabilities through workflow digitization, system and equipment integration, trusted manufacturing data, operational visibility, and scalable automation solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Discover, analyze, and prioritize manufacturing requirements with Production, Operations Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Warehouse, and Global IT stakeholders.
- Design, configure, test, document, deploy, and support Tulip MES applications and related digital manufacturing workflows for HSOT.
- Develop integrations and data flows between MES applications, approved equipment, devices, enterprise systems, and trusted data platforms, ensuring solutions remain supportable, secure, scalable, and compliant.
- Perform computer system validation activities for MES and manufacturing application changes, including risk-based assessment, traceability between requirements, configuration and testing, support for validation deliverables, and release approval readiness.
- Deploy and monitor applications, resolve incidents and recurring problems, and drive continuous improvement of usability, reliability, performance, adoption, and operational effectiveness.
- Maintain application, interface, device, configuration, validation, and support documentation in accordance with Global IT standard operating procedures, work instructions, and compliance expectations.
- Identify and evaluate smart-factory and digital-manufacturing use cases with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain, including workflow digitization, production record digitization, traceability, visibility, shop-floor data acquisition, and contextualization.
- Develop reusable application components, integration patterns, and scalable approaches that can be industrialized after successful proof-of-concept activities.
- Contribute to manufacturing dashboards, alerts, and operational analytics where they support shop-floor visibility, exception management, and data-driven decision making.
- Help define the HSOT manufacturing applications and smart-factory roadmap, including opportunities to replace or retire obsolete applications and improve lifecycle management.
- Prepare design specifications and solution documentation for stakeholder review and present proposed solutions, changes, and impacts in relevant IT architecture, change, validation, and governance forums.
- Provide regular project, support, and risk updates to the supervisor and communicate clearly with manufacturing and business teams on priorities, releases, incidents, and improvement activities.
- Indicative focus: Approximately 50% application development and enhancement, 40% operational support and continuous improvement, and 10% documentation and validation.
