Software Architect – AI-Native Banking Platform

Location: Kuala Lumpur / Hybrid

Reporting to: CTO, with close collaboration with CIO and Cloud Architect

Employment type: Full-time

Role Purpose

XIONEX is building an AI-native banking operations platform where products are rapidly developed with strong support from AI agents. We are looking for a hands-on Software Architect who acts as the human-in-the-loop architectural authority between fast AI-assisted development and production-grade software delivery.

This role owns the software architecture of the platform, not the cloud infrastructure. The Software Architect reviews and guides agent-generated and developer-generated technical outputs, defines the target application architecture, and ensures that prototypes can be hardened into secure, maintainable and auditable production software.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the software and application architecture of the X-One platform across core services and business modules.
• Review and approve software designs, architecture proposals, and AI-agent-generated development outputs before production use.
• Define the POC-to-production migration path, including refactoring, hardening, modularization, testability, release readiness, and maintainability.
• Design clean boundaries between:
• deterministic business logic and rule engines,
• agent orchestration and LLM-driven behavior,
• platform core and product-specific modules.
• Work closely with the Cloud Architect, who owns infrastructure, runtime platform, CI/CD backbone, security platform controls, and cloud operations.
• Ensure software designs support:
• auditability,
• explainability,
• human oversight,
• tenant/customer isolation,
• and regulated financial-services operations.
• Establish architecture review gates, design standards, ADR discipline, and approval criteria for AI-assisted engineering.

Scope of the Role

The Software Architect is expected to be strong in:

• backend and service architecture,
• API and integration design,
• modular and distributed systems,
• event-driven patterns,
• data and workflow design,
• software quality and production readiness.

This role is not the primary owner of cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, networking, IAM, or disaster recovery architecture. Those areas sit with the Cloud Architect.

Core Technology Context

The role should be comfortable working in an environment that includes, today or in the near future:

• Python-based backend services and APIs
• FastAPI / service-oriented architecture
• PostgreSQL / pgvector / relational data design
• containerized deployments
• CI/CD and automated quality gates
• LLM and agent integration patterns
• secure enterprise integrations and regulated audit trails

Must-Have Profile

• Strong experience as a Software Architect, Solution Architect, or Lead Engineer in complex platform or enterprise software environments
• Proven track record in taking systems from prototype/POC into production
• Strong knowledge of backend architecture, APIs, integration design, modular systems, and production hardening
• Ability to assess and improve code and designs created by others, including AI-assisted outputs
• Strong understanding of maintainability, scalability, performance, security, and software governance
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup with high technical ambition and evolving products

Strongly Preferred

• Experience in fintech, banking, insurance, or other regulated industries
• Experience with AI/LLM-integrated applications and human-in-the-loop design patterns
• Experience with audit-heavy systems, workflow platforms, or compliance-sensitive software
• Working knowledge of cloud-native environments - especially in GenAI Software Dev (Claude Code) - and close collaboration with infrastructure/platform architects,

What Good Looks Like

Within the first 6–12 months, this person should:

• establish a clear software reference architecture for X-One,
• create a reliable architecture review and approval process for AI-assisted development,
• define the productionization path from rapid prototype to bank-grade software,
• and work effectively with the Cloud Architect to separate application architecture from runtime/platform architecture.
