Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Centre Design & Infrastructure Strategy Engineer to lead data centre design standards, infrastructure planning, capacity optimization, and expansion strategy across a large, multi-country enterprise environment.

The successful candidate will assess existing data centre facilities, evaluate power and cooling capacity, challenge current infrastructure and network designs, and develop costed options to support expansion and modernization initiatives.

This role requires a strong combination of data centre engineering expertise, network architecture knowledge, commercial analysis, and stakeholder management. You will work closely with network architecture teams, hosting teams, sourcing, engineering consultants, and colocation providers, presenting evidence-based recommendations and investment proposals to senior technology leadership.

Key ResponsibilitiesData Centre Design & Standards

  • Define, develop, and maintain standardized data centre design classifications based on site purpose, network architecture, and infrastructure requirements.
  • Establish provisioning standards for rack types, power density, structured cabling, and connectivity.
  • Review existing designs and recommend improvements to support scalability, resilience, and operational efficiency.

Site Assessments & Capacity Planning

  • Lead detailed assessments of existing data centre facilities, including power availability, cooling capacity, equipment footprint, and historical demand.
  • Identify opportunities for rack consolidation, footprint reclamation, equipment rationalization, and infrastructure optimization.
  • Commission and review engineering feasibility studies, translating technical findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Develop capacity forecasts to support future infrastructure demand and expansion planning.

Infrastructure Expansion & Business Cases

  • Develop and evaluate costed infrastructure expansion options, including existing footprint optimization, additional rack deployment, and new data centre space.
  • Assess capital expenditure (CAPEX), one-time implementation costs, and recurring operational costs.
  • Prepare business cases and investment recommendations supported by technical analysis, financial evaluation, and risk assessment.
  • Present options, trade-offs, and clear recommendations to senior technology stakeholders.

Network & Rack Architecture

  • Review rack layouts, device placement, redundancy requirements, connectivity models, cabling media, and uplink standards.
  • Evaluate spine-leaf network architecture, pod-based connectivity, and legacy network designs.
  • Challenge existing infrastructure and network architecture where improvements are needed to meet business, capacity, or resilience requirements.
  • Collaborate with network and hosting teams to ensure alignment between facility design and technology architecture.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Engage and negotiate with colocation providers on power upgrades, containment modifications, and data centre cage or footprint expansion.
  • Manage engineering consultants and cabling vendors throughout site surveys, feasibility assessments, quotations, and project delivery.
  • Coordinate with internal infrastructure, network, sourcing, and facilities teams to deliver agreed solutions.
  • Communicate technical findings and strategic recommendations clearly to senior management.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Substantial experience in data centre design, data centre engineering, infrastructure strategy, or infrastructure planning.
  • Experience supporting large-scale, multi-site, or regional data centre environments.
  • Strong knowledge of data centre mechanical and electrical (M&E) infrastructure, including:
  • Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
  • Power Distribution Units (PDU)
  • Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) and Air Handling Units (AHU)
  • Cooling capacity, thermal management, and containment
  • Three-phase power distribution
  • Good understanding of network architecture, including switch configurations, port capacity, spine-leaf architecture, pod-based designs, and connectivity standards.
  • Proven experience in infrastructure capacity assessments, data centre expansion planning, and design optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop costed options, financial assessments, and business cases for infrastructure investments.
  • Experience managing colocation providers, landlords, engineering consultants, and technical vendors.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present concise, evidence-based recommendations to senior leadership.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Familiarity with Uptime Institute Tier standards and ASHRAE thermal guidelines.
  • Knowledge of applicable APAC regulatory requirements and data centre engineering standards.
  • Experience using Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tools and capacity forecasting platforms.
  • Exposure to regulated financial services environments, including banking or other large enterprise institutions.
  • Background in network architecture, network engineering, facilities engineering, or infrastructure planning.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP) or equivalent.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a decisive, commercially aware engineering professional who can turn complex data centre challenges into practical, costed recommendations. You should be comfortable gathering technical evidence, evaluating competing options, challenging existing designs, and presenting clear investment recommendations to senior stakeholders.

How to Apply

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit an updated CV highlighting their experience in data centre design, infrastructure engineering, power and cooling systems, network architecture, capacity planning, and infrastructure business case development.
