Mainframe Developer

Experience Required: 5–8 years

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer to develop, enhance, and support critical business applications running on IBM z/OS. You will play a key role in maintaining and modernizing core systems while ensuring high availability, performance, and data integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze requirements and design, code, test, and implement mainframe applications

Develop and maintain programs using COBOL, JCL, and PL/I

Work with online transaction processing using CICS and batch processing using JCL and schedulers

Design and optimize DB2 database structures, SQL queries, and stored procedures

Manage data using VSAM, IMS DB/DC (where applicable), and sequential/GDG files

Perform impact analysis, debugging, and performance tuning of batch and online programs

Provide production support, including on-call rotation, incident resolution, and root cause analysis

Support modernization efforts such as API enablement, integration with distributed systems, and migration initiatives

Mentor junior developers and conduct code reviews

Prepare technical specifications, test plans, and implementation documentation

Follow change management, version control, and release processes

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field

5–8 years of hands-on experience in mainframe application development

Strong expertise in COBOL, JCL, and DB2

Solid experience with CICS and VSAM

Proficiency with tools such as TSO/ISPF, File-AID, Endevor/ChangeMan, Xpediter, or Abend-AID

Experience with job schedulers (CA-7, Control-M, or TWS)

Strong debugging and abend-resolution skills

Good understanding of SDLC and Agile or Waterfall methodologies

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with IMS, MQ Series, REXX, or Assembler

Exposure to z/OS Connect, REST/SOAP service enablement, or mainframe modernization tools

Knowledge of DevOps for mainframe (Zowe, IBM Z DevOps, Git on z/OS)

Domain experience in banking, insurance, or financial services

Experience with data migration or mainframe-to-cloud initiatives

Pay: RM7,500.00 - RM11,000.00 per month
