About Chess Grande

Chess Grande is a growing chess education company in Singapore, providing enrichment programmes for children through our learning centre, partner schools, private coaching, holiday camps, tournaments and special events.


As we continue to expand our programmes and operations, we are looking for a capable and independent General Manager to oversee our daily business activities and lead our operational team.

This is an opportunity for an experienced education or operations professional to take on a broader leadership role within a growing company.


About the Role

The General Manager will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and effective operation of Chess Grande's programmes, employees, facilities and customer service.

You will oversee the operational team, coordinate with our coaching leadership, maintain relationships with schools and parents, and ensure that programmes and events are professionally delivered.

We are looking for someone who is confident making decisions, solving problems, managing people and taking ownership of business operations.

The successful candidate should be comfortable working independently and establishing practical systems to improve efficiency and accountability.


Chess Knowledge Is Not Required

Applicants do not need prior knowledge or experience in chess to qualify for this position.

We are primarily looking for an experienced manager with strong leadership, operational management, communication and problem-solving skills.


Chess Grande has a dedicated coaching team and curriculum leadership responsible for chess-related matters.


The General Manager's primary responsibility is to manage people, oversee business operations, coordinate programmes, resolve problems and ensure the company runs efficiently.


Experience in chess or chess education would be an advantage, but it is not a requirement.

Candidates from education, tuition, enrichment, student care and other relevant service industries are strongly encouraged to apply.


Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Operations
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of Chess Grande's centre, school programmes, private lessons and enrichment activities.
  • Ensure programmes are properly staffed, organised and delivered.
  • Identify and resolve operational problems independently.
  • Establish and improve operational procedures.
  • Monitor administrative processes, programme schedules and operational deadlines.
Team Leadership
  • Supervise and manage the operational team.
  • Assign responsibilities, establish expectations and monitor performance.
  • Conduct regular management meetings and staff briefings.
  • Address employee performance and operational concerns.
  • Coordinate recruitment, onboarding and staffing requirements.
  • Work closely with the Chess Coaching Coordinator on coach deployment and replacement arrangements.
School and Parent Relations
  • Maintain professional relationships with partner schools.
  • Respond to operational feedback and complaints.
  • Handle escalated parent concerns.
  • Ensure high standards of customer service.
  • Coordinate appropriate solutions to service and programme delivery issues.
Event and Programme Management
  • Lead the planning and execution of tournaments, holiday camps, student activities and company events.
  • Develop event plans, timelines, budgets and operational requirements.
  • Establish event objectives and performance indicators.
  • Coordinate staffing, logistics, equipment and venue arrangements.
  • Conduct pre-event reviews and staff briefings.
  • Supervise event execution and resolve operational problems.
  • Conduct post-event reviews and recommend improvements.
  • Develop engaging and enjoyable experiences for participants and families.
Financial and Resource Management
  • Monitor basic operational budgets and expenditure.
  • Review programme costs and resource requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
  • Oversee facilities, equipment and purchasing requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and approval of expenditure.
Reporting and Continuous Improvement
  • Prepare weekly operational updates for the Managing Director.
  • Identify operational risks and recommend solutions.
  • Monitor team performance and outstanding responsibilities.
  • Establish practical management and reporting systems.
  • Implement improvements that support the company's continued growth.
Requirements
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in operations, centre management, programme management or a related supervisory role.
  • Prior experience in education, tuition, enrichment, student care or a similar service-oriented industry is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising employees and coordinating operational activities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence handling parents, customers and external partners.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and take responsibility for outcomes.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets and other basic administrative systems.
  • Willingness to attend evening programmes, weekend activities, school visits and company events as required.


Knowledge of chess is not required. Experience in chess or enrichment education is an advantage.
