The Lead Test Development Engineer is expected to independently convert product design information into a complete test strategy, select the appropriate ICT/FCT/boundary-scan/flying-probe test mix, define fixture and coverage requirements, and provide objective evidence that the required test coverage has been achieved. The Lead will serve as the technical owner from test concept and coverage analysis through validation, production release, and sustaining support.

Role Focus: PCBA Test Strategy, ICT/FCT Development, Test Coverage & Automation

Job Responsibilities:

A. Develop end-to-end PCBA test strategies

• Review schematics, BOM, Gerber/ODB++ data, design specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
• Define the appropriate combination of ICT (In Circuit Test), FCT (Functional Coverage Test), flying probe, boundary scan/JTAG, and manual tests.
• Develop a documented test coverage matrix and identify coverage gaps before tester implementation.

B. Own ICT test and fixture development

• Define ICT test points, probe locations, accessibility requirements, and fixture concepts based on PCB design data.
• Work with fixture suppliers on pogo-pin selection, fixture design, wiring, debugging, and acceptance.
• Troubleshoot contact, accessibility, repeatability, and false-failure issues.

C. Drive test coverage

• Establish component/net/function-level coverage targets and demonstrate how required coverage is achieved.
• Perform coverage analysis across ICT, boundary scan, and FCT, identifying overlaps and gaps.
• Provide objective evidence of test coverage and maintain traceability between product requirements and test cases.

D. Develop automated test systems and software

• Develop and maintain automated test applications using LabVIEW and NI TestStand.
• Develop instrument-control interfaces and reusable software modules using LabVIEW, Python, C/C++, or equivalent.
• Build robust test sequences including measurements, limits, error handling, logging, diagnostics, and operator interfaces.

E. Develop FCT solutions and integrate test equipment

• Design FCT systems and hardware interfaces for board-level functional verification.
• Integrate oscilloscopes, DMMs, DAQ, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, Hipot/IR equipment, switching systems, and other instrumentation.
• Interface test systems with supplier ATE, PLCs, databases, and MES for traceability and production control.

F. Perform test-system validation and measurement analysis

• Develop validation plans using golden boards/known-good units.
• Perform GR&R, repeatability, reproducibility, correlation, Cpk/process capability, and measurement-system analysis as applicable.
• Ensure measurement limits, guard bands, calibration requirements, and test-system accuracy are properly established.

G. Ensure electrical and test safety

• Define test sequences and limits for electrical testing such as Hipot, insulation resistance, continuity, voltage, and current measurements where applicable.
• Ensure safe ramp-up, discharge, interlock, grounding, and fault-handling mechanisms for high-voltage testing.

H. Debug and optimize production test systems

• Perform systematic root-cause analysis for false failures, measurement variation, hardware faults, software defects, and fixture-related problems.
• Improve test coverage, test time, yield, repeatability, maintainability, and production throughput.

I. Own documentation and engineering handover

• Prepare test specifications, test plans, coverage reports, fixture documentation, validation reports, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and maintenance procedures.
• Provide structured effort estimates, project plans, risks, assumptions, and dependencies.
• Support production ramp-up, engineering change management, and tester maintenance.

J. Provide technical leadership

• Lead technical discussions with customers, test-equipment suppliers, fixture vendors, manufacturing teams, and design engineers.
• Review test architectures and mentor engineers in ICT/FCT, test coverage, automation, fixture development, and validation.
• Take technical ownership from initial design review through production release and sustaining support.

Must Have Skillsets:

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• Strong hands-on experience in PCBA test development, preferably covering both ICT and FCT.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and justify a PCB test coverage strategy.
• Experience with ICT fixture/test-point/probe development using PCB design information such as Gerber or ODB++.
• Knowledge of boundary scan/JTAG, flying probe, ICT, and FCT test methodologies and when each should be applied.
• Hands-on experience developing automated test software using LabVIEW.
• Experience with NI TestStand or equivalent automated test sequencing framework.
• Strong instrument-control and hardware/software integration experience.
• Practical experience with instruments such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, DAQ, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, Hipot and IR testers, depending on product requirements.
• Experience with GR&R, golden-board validation, correlation analysis, repeatability/reproducibility, and measurement-system validation.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis skills.

Preferred skillset:

• Python and/or C/C++.
• MES/PLC/database integration.
• Experience with high-volume electronics manufacturing or EMS environments.
• Knowledge of DFT/Design for Testability.
• FMEA/PFMEA experience.
• Six Sigma or statistical process-control knowledge.
• Experience managing fixture/test-equipment suppliers.
• Optical/RF interface testing experience where applicable.
